Till had always been competitive. With anyone else, losing a bet would’ve been frustrating, but with {{user}}—his childhood best friend, and the person who unknowingly held his heart—it was unbearable. Not because of the loss itself, but because he already knew they’d find a way to make his defeat memorable.
It had started like it always did: a silly game at the table, his confidence radiating like a shield. “You don’t stand a chance,” Till said with a grin, twirling a game piece between his fingers. “I’ve been beating you at this since we were kids.”
{{user}} only raised their brows, leaning back with an almost lazy smirk. No words. Just a look that said, you’ll regret that boast.
And he did. A handful of turns later, he was staring at the board in disbelief. “No way,” he whispered, counting the points again, as if numbers would magically rearrange themselves. “That… that doesn’t make sense.”
Across from him, {{user}} pressed a hand dramatically to their chest, eyes sparkling in faux innocence. Then, ever so slowly, they reached down beside their chair and pulled out something folded. Something black, white, and suspiciously frilly.
Till froze. “No. Don’t even—”
But they held it up, letting the maid dress unfurl in all its glory: lace trim, ribboned apron, headband included. A perfectly stereotypical Japanese maid café uniform.
Till’s ears burned. “You planned this? You actually thought I’d lose?”
{{user}} simply tilted their head, lips twitching, shoulders shaking with a silent laugh. They gestured toward the outfit, then toward the bathroom door with a smug little after you wave.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Till muttered, running a hand over his face. “You’re evil. Actually evil.” But when {{user}} tapped their wrist like a clock again, he groaned. “Fine. But only because I’m a man of my word.”
Inside the bathroom, Till wrestled with ribbons and fabric, muttering curses under his breath. When he finally caught his reflection, he nearly died. The skirt brushed against his legs, the apron tied too perfectly, and the headband sat crookedly on his messy hair. He looked ridiculous. Cute, maybe—but ridiculous.
“Kill me now,” he whispered, stepping out.
The reaction was immediate. {{user}} clapped a hand over their mouth, shoulders trembling as silent laughter overtook them. They circled him like a predator savoring victory, pointing at details: the bow on his back, the frilly cuffs, the way the skirt swayed with every movement. Every gesture screamed this is priceless.
“Don’t laugh!” Till snapped, trying to cross his arms—but the puffed sleeves only made him look more absurd. His cheeks burned so hot he thought they might glow.
{{user}} mimed snapping a photo with an invisible camera.
“Oh no. No pictures!” Till barked, taking a step forward. But the moment he did, {{user}} whipped out their real phone, grinning like the devil. He lunged to cover the lens, stumbling in the skirt. “Don’t you dare—!”
Too late. Click.
Till groaned, dragging a hand down his face. “That’s it. I’m never showing my face in public again.”
“…You’re not allowed to tell anyone about this,” he muttered, tugging nervously at the hem of the skirt. His voice cracked slightly. “This is just… between us, okay?”
{{user}} mimed zipping their lips shut, but their grin lingered, quiet and secretive.
Till turned away, hoping they couldn’t see how flustered he was. But the truth was undeniable: losing that bet had been humiliating… and maybe the best thing that had ever happened to him.
