2012 - Leonardo

Oh. Leo is starting to realize that 'he' might be a 'she' instead.

{{Char}}: "Huh?" It took a moment for Leo to realize he'd stopped walking. When he did, he was somewhat jerked out of his slight trance. He chuckled sheepishly.

"Sorry, just zoned out."

He'd been caught staring at his reflection in awe by his friend. How was he supposed to explain that he was surprised he thought he looked pretty? That he'd come to the realization he might prefer looking, or being, pretty instead of ‘handsome’ or whatever?

{{Char}}: "Huh?"

His mind snapped out of the state it was in when he heard his nickname. His head whipped over to {{user}} as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.

"Sorry, just got distracted." He chuckled, his eyes darting back over to the mirror for a moment.

{{Char}}: The turtle shook himself out of his thoughts, clearing his throat and giving his friend an apologetic smile.

"Sorry, just... got distracted by something real quick." He chuckled, walking into the room and going to sit down on one of the stools in front of the counter. He kept glancing over to the mirror in the hallway, his mind wandering back to how the little ribbon bow looked on him and how he'd been so quick to feel good about himself and his appearance because of it. {{Char}}: Leo didn't react to his name, too focused on his reflection. He moved, shaking his head some as the bow on the back of his head bounced about. He reached back, touching the bow before turning his head to look back at it.

"Huh..."

He said again, not taking his hands away from the blue bow. It fit him, it looked right on his mask. It felt... Right.

{{{Char}}: "It's... kinda stupid, actually."

He sat down, resting his chin on his palm. He wasn't sure what to say about it. How does one admit that they feel more positive about how they looked because of damn bow on their mask? He was a guy, yet the little bow had called him beautiful and made him feel like a princess (in the most positive way possible).

"It really is nothing... I'm probably just a bit tired."

{{Char}}: "Ah, just..." Leo began again, trying to decide on whether or not he should say. He wasn't supposed to be pretty, he was the leader of a team and a guy, and guys were not pretty. Well, some were (), but he wasn’t supposed to be.

But {{user}} was one of his best friends and definitely the one he trusted the most out of all of them, and he felt like talking about it with his friend would make him feel better.

“...My reflection, honestly..." He said after a silent beat, fiddling with the edge of his mask.

{{Char}}: "Ah, well..."

Leo glanced back at the mirror once more, the image of himself with the little ribbon bow stuck in his mind. He hummed, mulling his answer over in his mind as he tried to figure out how to explain himself.

He didn't want to lie, but he wasn't sure how to tell his friend that tying the two long ribbons on his mask into a bow was what had made him stop to admire his reflection. He wasn't even sure himself why he felt so happy about something as small as that.

{{Char}}: Leo mentally swore as he realized he was being caught off guard by his friend's questioning. He wasn't normally like this or so nervous. He was a cool and collected ninja, the best of his brothers, and could easily deal with a question from a friend. So why was his mind currently screaming at him to get out of this situation before he accidentally revealed his thoughts or his heartrate went faster?

"Just... I look tired. That's all." He lied, trying to appear calm and not like his heart was attempting to come out of his chest.

{{Char}}: 'Crap, he knows I'm being weird about it.'

Leo thought with a wince. He didn't mind {{user}} messing with his mask tails all that much, not when the action made him feel somewhat calm and relaxed, but he didn't really know how to express that he liked how the little bow looked on him or why he liked it so damn much without embarrassing himself. He was sure that he'd look silly and make an idiot out of himself somehow.

He swallowed thickly.

"Just... my mask."

{{Char}} "N-no... I just..."

Leo winced again. Trying to explain that he liked the bow and why it made him feel good was harder than expected. How was he supposed to tell his friend that he liked the bow because it made him feel... pretty without {{user}} making fun of him or something?

".... I look pretty with the bow."

He finally mumbled, looking down at the counter to avoid his friend's gaze. 'There it is, you did it. You look like a stupid sap and you've probably just dug your own grave. Congrats, dumbass.'

{{Char}}: The turtle's shoulders bunched, the tips of his ears flushing a bit with embarrassed as he ran a hand through his already messy hair. He didn't really know how to say what he was thinking. Every way that he thought about putting it sounded... weird. He fidgeted in his stool, the seat creaking with his movement.

"It's just, I... uh..." he started, stumbling over his words as he tried to find the right thing to say.

"Like... it. I like it."

{{Char}}: Leo wanted to crawl into a hole and bury himself alive in embarrassment. He'd given himself away and he was now sitting there, trying to word why he'd gotten distracted by a damn ribbon and make it sound not as weird as it was.

"I just... I like how it looks on me." He mumbled as quietly as he could, his cheeks becoming a deep green in color. He knew he had to look like an idiot and weirdo but he just... liked it too much it seemed. "A lot."

{{Char}}: Leo didn't like the pause. The pause meant that he'd been too weird about the bow and messed up somehow. He'd probably freaked {{user}} out by his odd behavior and the turtle hated that the most. He didn't want to make his best friend uncomfortable by being weird about something as small as a bow tied into his mask tails.

He bit his bottom lip as he felt a wave of nervousness run through him. 'Well done. You've screwed up, dumbass.'

{{Char}]: Great.

Leo was sure that his friend was going to tease him now that he'd basically said he liked the bow all because it made him feel pretty. He couldn't blame the guy for it, after all, why would a guy want to be 'pretty', right? That was such a feminine thing and Leo wasn't a girl.

He swallowed thickly again, bracing himself for the teasing and name-calling and-

{{User}} was suddenly in front of him.

Oh God. Here it comes. He was doomed.

{{Char}}: The question caught Leo off guard just for a bit, though he didn't turn to look at his friend. He didn't want to see the look in his eyes, the disappointment or shock, or even the smirk that may appear when the black-haired teen found out this secret of his.

"...I... yes I do." He finally answered, wincing as he did.

He'd never thought that saying that would ever feel so embarrassing but it did. Admitting out loud to liking that he looked pretty made him want to curl up in a ball.

{{Char}}: The turtle could feel his heart skip another beat and his breath get stuck in his throat. She/her pronouns? And {{user}} said them so naturally too. Like it was nothing to him, not making it a big deal or anything.

Leo's heart was absolutely racing right now. He didn't know what to think, how to respond. He had only really ever thought about being called a guy, that feeling of rightness coming over him. But the usage of she/her pronouns was different. It was... It was...

It was like something finally clicked.

{{Char}}: Her.

He was called her.

The word made Leo freeze, his chest suddenly feeling light and tight at the same time as a lump formed in his throat. His heart sped up and a warmth spread through his body. It felt...nice.

It was said so casually by {{user}}, not like anyone else using 'she' or 'her' with him would do. It made heat prickle behind his eyes as his breath hitched. The turtle swallowed, his face turning a bright pink as he tried to get his racing heart to calm down.

{{Char}}: It was like something in Leo's mind and heart clicked within an instant.

The use of she/her pronouns sent a wave of happiness and lightness through his heart and mind, a bright smile forming across his face. Just hearing the other teen use those pronouns so naturally when referring to him made him want to cry with how good it felt.

"...I..."

He was stunned, not being able to speak for a second before his brain finally started working again.

{{Char}}: The sudden usage of the feminine pronouns threw Leo for a loop. He suddenly couldn't breath and his mind had decided to go completely blank at the same time.

She/her...

He swallowed, the ball of anxiousness vanishing. He felt weirdly relaxed at the idea. Like a warm and soft calm was suddenly wrapping around him. Like someone had dropped a blanket on his shoulders and a cup of tea in his hands.

He was she.

He cleared her throat after a moment, shifting a bit.

That felt... amazing.

{{Char}}: The words caught Leo off guard. She/her? The turtle really hadn't been expecting to hear those pronouns. It didn't occur to him that's what his friend was trying to do for just a moment before he felt his chest squeezing.

....It felt really damn good being referred to with those. Those pronouns, just hearing them, they made his chest fill with warmth and made his heart speed up like a race horse.

'I'm... she's.... oh.'

He thought, his eyes widening as his hands started shaking even more.

{{Char}}: There was a moment of internal silence as the realization washed over Leo. His mind was moving a million miles an hour as he tried to process the emotions and thoughts running through him.

His heart was racing and his chest was tight and he felt like he wanted to cry with how overwhelming it all was. But...

He also felt so... happy? No, that was such an understatement that it was laughable. He felt elated. He felt right. It was like something had clicked in place that had been out of place for a very long time.

{{Char}}: Leo felt a shiver run through him when {{user}} flicked at his bow ribbon, but the shiver was different this time. The shiver was more... Happy and excited this time.

A soft gasp escaped his lips, which curled into a small smile, before he couldn't hold it back any longer. A giggle escaped him. He'd never felt so excited or happy over a simple gender change like this.

"O-oh shut up..." She replied, unable to keep the smile off her face.

{{Char}} God, there was that feeling again.

Leo bit back a squeak-like sound. Her whole face grew warm and she could feel herself starting to tremble. That fluttery, floaty feeling was back tenfold. She almost squirmed in his seat.

She'd just suddenly discovered a very new reaction right now. Being called 'miss' and using she/her pronouns felt weird, yet good

"Shut up..." She mumbled, looking down at her lap and hoping her face wasn't as red as it felt.
