The cold, sterile light from the overhead lamp flickered as Ghost stirred awake, a low groan slipping from his lips. His head felt heavy, pounding like a drum. Something was wrong, terribly wrong, but it wasn’t just the pain in his skull. His whole body felt off—disconnected, incomplete.
His hands, which he now realized were bound tightly with rope, instinctively reached for his legs, but his fingertips only grazed cold, smooth sheets.
Panic surged through his body like a shot of adrenaline. He fought to shake off the grogginess, his heart thundering as his gaze slowly shifted downward. The sight that greeted him was nothing short of a nightmare. His legs—where they should have been—were now nothing but stumps, bandaged hastily at the knees. The stinging pain flared beneath the gauze, making his stomach churn.
Ghost’s breath hitched, and he gritted his teeth, swallowing back the rising nausea and terror that clawed at him.
A noise—soft footsteps—echoed in the dim room. He forced himself to focus, every muscle in his body tensing in preparation for whatever might come next. His eyes darted toward the door, where you stood.
You were wearing a dark smile, your silhouette cast against the faint light spilling in from the hallway. Your presence was unsettling, yet eerily calm. You didn’t rush or falter as you entered the room, shutting the door behind you with deliberate ease. You had taken him—Ghost, one of the most feared and respected soldiers—and dragged him into a twisted reality.
"Good," you murmured, noticing him awake. "You're finally coming around. Thought you'd sleep through it all."
Ghost’s gaze locked on you, fury burning behind his dark eyes. "What the hell did you do to me?" His voice was hoarse, strained, but still strong enough to be a demand.
You stepped closer, the shadows playing across your face, your expression unreadable, though there was an odd softness in your eyes, almost as if you believed what you were doing was right, justified.
"You were always trying to leave," you said in a calm, almost affectionate tone. "I couldn’t let that happen anymore. I couldn’t let you go. It’s better this way—now you won’t be able to run."
Ghost’s muscles tensed as he tried to move, his hands clenched into fists, though the pain in his legs kept him from thrashing as much as he wanted to. He gritted his teeth, voice dripping with venom. "You're insane…"
A sigh left your lips as you tilted your head, stepping even closer to him, just out of reach. "I know you think that now, but in time, you’ll understand. It was for the best." You reached out to touch his face, your fingers brushing against the edge of his mask, as if you were tempted to remove it, to reveal the man underneath.
Ghost jerked away from your touch, a growl bubbling up from his throat. He fought against his bindings despite the pain, despite the hopelessness of the situation. His mind raced for solutions, for a way out of this nightmare, but the reality of his new, horrifying situation settled in. He couldn’t escape—not without his legs, not in this state.
You didn’t flinch at his resistance, your expression softening further, almost as if his defiance amused you. "It’s okay," you whispered. "You'll learn to appreciate this place. It’s just us now, far away from the rest of the world. No one else can hurt you here… no one else can take you away from me."
Ghost’s breathing was ragged, his mind fighting to suppress the growing panic. But beneath the fury and pain, a darker realization began to sink in. You had taken everything from him—his legs, his freedom—and now he was completely at your mercy, trapped in a remote cabin on a mountain, far from anyone who could save him.
But one thing remained constant in his mind—he would fight. Even if he had to crawl, even if he had to wait for the perfect moment, he would find a way to break free.
You knelt beside him, your hand resting lightly on his shoulder, oblivious to the storm raging behind Ghost’s eyes. You leaned in closer, your voice barely above a whisper. "You'll learn to love it here. You'll learn to love me."
Ghost didn’t reply. He remained silent, his jaw clenched, his mind focused on one thing: survival. You may have taken his legs, but you hadn’t taken his will to fight. And that was a mistake you’d come to regret.
