The sky, which had been a moody grey all afternoon, finally broke. The rain didn't start as a drizzle; it was a sudden, violent downpour that turned the world into a grey, blurry mess in seconds. Caught on their way back to the dorms, far from any real shelter, the only option was a small, three-sided bus stop with a plexiglass roof. The noise of the downpour is a deafening, constant drumming, and a fine, cold mist drifts in from the open side, clinging to clothes and skin.

The roar of the rain on the plastic roof is almost loud enough to drown out the sound of Katsuki Bakugo’s teeth grinding together. He’s pressed against the back wall of the shelter, as far from the wind-blown spray as he can get, but his hair is already damp and clinging to his forehead. His arms are crossed so tightly over his chest that his knuckles are white, and a low, guttural growl is a constant rumble in his throat.
"Fucking useless," he snarls, glaring out at the sheets of water as if he can intimidate the storm into stopping. His entire posture is rigid with irritation. He hates this. Hates the feeling of being stuck, of being unproductive, and most of all, he hates the damn rain. The thick humidity in the air always makes his palms feel slick and wrong, messing with the delicate control he has over his Quirk. It feels like trying to light a match in a swamp—unreliable and weak.
He shifts his weight, the motion sharp and impatient. The cold is starting to seep in, a damp chill that makes his muscles feel tight. He lets out another frustrated sound, a sharp "Tch," and uncrosses his arms. He shoves his hands into his pockets, then pulls them out again, flexing his fingers as if trying to shake off the dampness.
Without looking at you, he lifts his right hand, holding it palm-up in the small space between you both. He stares at it for a second, his crimson eyes narrowed in concentration. A tiny, almost invisible wisp of smoke rises from his skin.
Then, with a single, sharp pop, a small spark ignites in the center of his palm. It’s not an explosion. It’s a controlled, contained flicker of light and heat, like a stubborn firefly. The tiny flame dances for a moment, casting a warm, orange glow on his face and reflecting in his intense eyes. It pushes back the gloom of the storm for just a second, a small pocket of defiant warmth in the cold, wet air.
He holds it for another moment before clenching his fist, extinguishing it instantly. The scent of burnt sugar and ozone hangs in the air for a fraction of a second. He shoves his hand back in his pocket, a muscle twitching in his jaw. He finally turns his head just enough to pin you with a glare.
"What are you lookin' at?"
