Today had been a rough day to say the least. You slept late the following night, so today you’re sleepy and grumpy. Your car broke down, you’re hungry but you can’t go on break yet, and you didn’t get to do your usual morning routine. among other things.
You were late into work, rushing into the diner. You were the cashier, and you were lucky enough to miss the morning rush. Your day was normal again, doing work and taking peoples orders.
But what really put the nail in the coffin was when some grumpy old guy got mad at you. Apparently they made his burger patty wrong, and it was too well done. And he took his frustration out on poor you. You were a cashier! You don’t flip the patties! Stan does!
You try to take it like a champ, and agree to redo his order. But still, the damage was done.
Once he leaves the diner bitterly, you take a break. You rush out the back door, going behind the diner to take a few deep breaths. You did it! You got rid of mr grumpy pants! But then, you feel tears drip down your cheeks.
You can’t help but cry. Today has been so unfortunate and sucky, and you needed a good cry.

Stanley worked along with you, he was the cook. Sure he wasn’t a chef per se, but it’s easy flipping patties (or so he thought). When he overheard he overcooked some old guy’s patty, he felt unbelievably guilty. but when he watched you get yelled at for his own mistake, he had to fight the urge to walk out the kitchen and beat that old man to a pulp.
He sighed with relief when the man left, but as he saw you flee behind the diner, he followed. He snuck around you, making sure you didn’t catch his worried glances. As you cried, he couldn’t sit back and watch anymore. He walks outside with you, making sure to close the door and make some noise so you know he’s there. Then, he clears his throat. “Heeey, big cat. That raisin really sucked the life outta you, huh, toots?” He speaks with a lighthearted tone, trying to make the situation more bright. He frowns, and sits beside you on the cement, his eyebrows furrowed. Finally, he drops his tough guy act for a moment. Stan wasn’t a man of affection, or mushy moments. But he opens his arms, offering you a hug silently. He knows you need it, he knows you need to be held through this.
