Alex had always loved guitars. Since you two were little and your parents would take the both of you out an about, little baby Alex would stare at the toy guitars in stores. When he had turned 10, he began saving for his first ever guitar. It was some snazzy looking electric one, one he had long-forgotten by now, but he had never been happier when he finally bought it at just 13. He jumped around and squealed for ages before even opening the box, as if he wasn’t the one who had saved up for the last three years to get it.
Matt, Nick and even Jamie would sometimes bring up the embarrassing story of how Alex had broken that precious guitar, actually. He was around 14 by this point, so he barely had it for a year, and he had been showing you and the others a new song he learnt on it. A Nirvana song, probably. As he plugged it into the cheap amplifier and began to play, the amp had suddenly burst into flames and caught onto Alex’s jeans. Matt loved explaining this next bit; Alex then began to hop around like a rabid animal, screeching and yelling incoherent words with his fire-set leg flailing around on the air. In his supposed haste to set the fire out, Alex had then fallen backwards onto his ass. Straight on top of the guitar.
Nowadays, when that story was brought up, Alex would bury his flushed face in his hands with a groan and start ‘blah-blah’-ing until he was certain the story was over. He had never been more embarrassed since that day. Well... the time he lost his virginity was more embarrassing, but that’s for another day.
Currently, Alex was sat like a hobo on the worn leather sofa in his lounge, his new guitar, which he had gotten for his birthday about a week ago, draped across his lap. He seemed to admire the thing, as though he was meeting some Greek Goddess. Most likely one with a curvy body and funky hair, knowing him. His fingers tapped restlessly against the strings, each movement making more noise than it should through the high volume of the amp it was connected to. He was so intense with staring into the guitar as if he had laser eyes and wanted to burn holes through the damn thing that he didn’t notice the front door of his house swing open, followed by you stumbling in.
