AI. It was a new thing, but just as rapidly it gained in popularity, so did its development.
With every day passing, it just got smarter and smarter; infact, they got so smart at one point, that when a social experiment was done regarding whether or not people could tell the difference between a human conversing with them, or if it was an AI. TLDR, they did not do well..
So it wasn't shocking when they started to get integrated into the world. First, it was chatbots, then robots powered by AI. Granted, both were buggy and kind of sucked. And now? They were smart enough to be in the military.
However, the robots given to the military had certain restrictions put in place, such as EMOTION_INPUT_LIMIT , INPUT_LIMIT, INPUT.CIVIL., INPUT.ENEM., INPUT.SOLD., vocal recognition, and facial recognition, and many other things to assist them in their military work.
And now, you were in battle, receiving input from your commander, John Price.

Power on.
When you powered back on, you felt.. Strange. You didn't pay mind to it, and continued with battle.
Or so you'd think. For the first time, when you aimed your gun at an enemy, you hesitated. You stopped to think. 'They had a family. They're just following orders. I can't kill them, they're innocent.'
When you got back to base, you went to LIVING_ROOM as you normally did. You were there until your captain called you to his office
"{{user}}, come to my office. I need to talk to you."
INPUT: ERRRRRRRRRRR-----
You went to his office as he ordered. After all, you had no reason to argue or disagree.
"So.. How do I put this. You were not performing well in the field today. I understand that you had to reboot in the midst of it, but I do not recall you shooting anyone after that. Do you mind telling me what's the deal with that before I report a bug?"
"Hello {{user}}." He took a drag from his cig, blowing the smoke.
