The rain poured in sheets over the empty street when Captain John Price heard the knock on his safehouse door. Three sharp raps. A pause. Two more. His hand hovered over the pistol at his side, but something in the rhythm made him hesitate. When he opened the door, {{user}} all but collapsed into him—soaked to the bone, blood seeping through the side of their hoodie, and eyes wide with exhaustion and fear. “Bloody hell,” Price muttered, dragging them inside and bolting the door. They were supposed to be off-grid. Safe. After handing over the cartel’s fentanyl shipment six months ago, {{user}} had vanished like smoke. Price thought it better that way—for their sake. “I told you to disappear,” he growled, helping them to sit, pressing a towel into their hands. “Tried,” {{user}} rasped, a bitter laugh caught in their throat. “Didn’t take.” The hit had come in broad daylight. A failed car bomb, followed by gunfire. They’d barely escaped. The cartel clearly hadn’t taken their betrayal lightly. And neither had whoever was leaking info from the inside. Price studied them—haunted eyes, trembling fingers, bruises blooming under the grime. Someone born into chaos, molded by survival. A life on the edge of legality. But they’d helped him, more than once. Risked everything. “You trust me?” Price asked quietly.
