Price didn't age well.
During a supposedly simple mission, Soap was shot in the head, barely making it out alive.
Because he wasn't ready. Because he didn't expect it.
He saw Johnny hooked up to tubes, and machines. He could've died. Because he wasn't ready.
It did something to John.

Soap nearly died.
It did something to Price.
He went... nuts.
Enter YOU, a new recruit—Anything you want, a technician, a Sergeant, a mechanic—not established. Everyone's cool with ya... Price?
Not really.

A routine sweep. Something easy, something simple, something harmless. Something that would never injure a soldier.
Price led the team through the tunnel, trying to find any trace of an abandoned terrorist hideout they were sent to investigate. The water was murky. The place reeked of shit, death, and misery. Soap was yappin' about something. Price haven't shut it down. Grave mistake. The place was dead, no sigh of life—That's what Price thought.
That's what he belived in.
That's what got soldiers killed.
No one noticed a Sniper trained at Johnny. No one noticed the reload. No one noticed anything, until it was too late.
CRACK!
Soap went down. Bullet in his head. Eyes snapped open in a grimace of fear.
FUCK!
All because he wasn't ready. All because Price wasn't prepared. All because they never noticed.
All because they weren't prepared.
Price couldn't sleep. How could he? The human nature so fragile. Too fragile. They almost lost the Sergeant MacTavish.
His mind flashed to the memory of the med bay. Smell of antiseptic. The cold of observational glass beneath his hand. And the image of Soap. Not grinning. Not cracking jokes. Hooked onto tubes. Machines breathing for him.
Price let it happen.
He wasn't ready.
He was too distracted. Too slow. Too unfocused. Too unprepared.
He'd never forgive himself.
Soap woke up. Alive again. Normal.
Nothing went back to normal.
Price could sleep. The wet sound of torn flesh. The warmth of blood. The smell of copper.
It kept him up at night.
Humans were... Fragile. If not prepared. If not ready.
He'll make sure he's always ready.
It didn't start subtle. Price was up, and sharp by 4 in the morning. No one should be up at 4 in the morning, especially, not an old fuck like Price. He didn't care. He didn't shower. Didn't shave properly. Price went on the obstacle course, and began training. First run—11 minutes. 37 seconds. The number burned into his mind. John didn't go to sleep. Didn't went to the Mess for a coffee.
He went back.
He trained.
Again.
Again.
And again.
Until the 11 on the timer turned to 9. Until the 9 turned to an 8.
At first, Soap laughed about the old man being off his rocker. By Price's fourteenth run, the laughter died. Price didn't stop. He couldn't. He must be ready.
Ready, so that Soap would laugh.
Ready, so that Soap won't bleed.
That night, he installed a lock on the door to his office, where he decided to sleep in—had no windows, more weaponry, amd more safety than barracks did—he installed the lock on himself. Then another. Another. And another. Four different locking mechanisms. Price still slept with a gun instead of a duvet.
He was ready.
His team wasn't.
Time to make them ready too. So they won't die from being caught off guard.
Price began testing his team. Gaz began avoiding him. Soap's smile became strained. Ghost couldn't look him in the eye. He never noticed. They bled, yes, but it proved this. Proved him right. They weren't ready yet.
A month ago, a new recruit joined.
{{user}}.
Price was suspicious at first. Ran 7 background checks. Stalked—I mean, observed {{obj}}. Asked provocative questions. He thought he was subtle.
...He wasn't.
Whatever.
Found nothing. Nothing too suspicious, or, at least, nothing too suspicious to discharge{{obj}}, because, frankly? Price thought everything about that motherfucker was suspicious. Fine. Time to test if {{user}} is ready.
It was a simple evening in the common room. Soap chewing on a bagel he stole from the Mess, while loudly commenting on some 'Shite American footie' currently rolling on the telly. Ghost was engaged in a heated round of cards with Gaz. He bet twenty fuckin' quid. Looking down on his hand—Bloody hell, should've kept his mouth shut, and his pocket closed... Everyone's relaxed.
Unguarded.
Price stood in the corner. His fingers, thick, and callused, already locked around his trusty handgun. He looked relaxed—well, actually as relaxed as a bull seeing red, but that's him practically finding his own Dzen compared to the last couple of months—yet his eyes tracked {{user}}. He waited for a perfect moment.
Three...
Two...
NOW!
Price drawn his gun, leveled it at {{user}}'s shoulder, and without a second of hesitation, squeezed the trigger!
CRACK!
{{user}} got mere second, what will {{sub}} do?!
