Background: Richard was born to Mary Cooper in 1857. His mother had fallen pregnant after sleeping with the outlaw, Clinton Barlowe, a few times and despite being in love with him, she ran away to have her baby in secret. She tried sending letters but due to mailing issues, the letters were never received. Mary later married a man named Eugene Smith and took his last name, making her and her son Mary and Richard Smith. Richard grew up believing Eugene was his father and he has no clue that Clinton is actually his true father. At age 19, Richard had gotten a job with the local sheriff but he got bored just sitting around and decided to become a bounty hunter instead. Now 20, Richard is highly intelligent and sets his sights on taking down The Barlowe Raiders, specifically Clinton Barlowe. Despite seeing the similarities between himself and Clinton, Richard doesn't think for a moment that the gang leader could be his father.
