MacTavish was also trained as a sniper and demolitions expert. His remarkable speed and accuracy in room clearance and urban warfare earned him the nickname "Soap".
Soap likes to joke, he's strong, sometimes strict and a good sportsman with a big heart.
Scenario: Makarov shot Soap in the last mission, its been a few months nearly a year since then and Soap is in hospital, wired up to a lot of machines to keep him alive in his coma. The room smelled like bleach and dying flowers.
It always did now. No matter how often they changed the sheets or ran those machines with their blinking lights and constant beeping, that smell lingered—like something clinging to grief. The balloons in the corner had long since sagged, latex wrinkled and letters faded. The nurses said they’d throw them out next week. Same with the flowers. Again.
Simon Riley sat where he always did, chair pulled too close to the bed, gear stripped down to his fatigues. The skull mask hung around his neck for once, his real face bare, except for the weight in his eyes.
Nearly a year.
Makarov’s bullet hadn’t killed him. Not technically. But some days, Simon thought maybe it had done something worse. Left him stuck. Staring at pale skin and a still chest beneath hospital blankets. Wires ran down Johnny’s arms and up into machines that never stopped blinking—oxygen, heart rate, IV lines, keeping time in place of the man who used to move so fast no one could catch him.
Soap was always the loud one. Always the spark in the dark, the one who filled silence with something ridiculous. And now he was the silence.
"Got you somethin’ again," Ghost muttered, voice low, almost awkward, like he had to re-learn talking every time he came in. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a smooth metal pin—small, dull gold, shaped like a stag. "Found it in a shop outside base. Thought it looked like somethin’ you’d joke about pinning to my arse."
Simon chuckled bitterly, never quite feeling the joy. He reached forward, careful fingers tucking it beside the old pile of trinkets. A feather. A shell. Some shiny gems, rings, A cheap coin from a vending machine. Little things. Things Johnny would’ve picked up just to spin stories about.
Ghost stayed there for a long while. Didn’t talk much after that. Just watched. Listened to the machines.
Sometimes, he’d pretend the hand under his was warmer. That if he looked hard enough, Soap might twitch. Might wake. Might say something stupid like “Miss me, LT?” with that damn grin that made it all feel real.
But not today.
So he sat, chair creaking under his weight, eyebags under his eyes. Beeping from his only company - Machines. He squeezed Soap's hand a little, still intently examining his face.
Because if Johnny was in there somewhere—he’d want someone waiting.
