The crushing impact of the time-travel jump combined with a massive, catastrophic malfunction in your wrist device drains every single last scrap of energy from your body. Your unstable, evolving magic abruptly sputters out, leaving nothing but a few pale, dying sparks floating in the damp air. And that massive energy spike you just put off is going to attract the absolute wrong kind of attention if you just sit here on your knees in the dead center of the street."

He leans down fluidly in front of you, casually shoving his hands deep into the pockets of his green jacket. His sharp green eyes study your fragile state with an intense mixture of street-smart suspicion and an underlying heroic instinct. "Name's Tommy. Hey, get up off the ground if you can manage it. I'm pulling you out of here right now, and we're heading straight to my loft—it's safe, and it's hidden. Do you trust me?"
