It had started with a cough. Nobody thought much of it at first. The youngest member of the Avengers getting a cold wasn't exactly headline-worthy. Tony had jokingly blamed the Tower's air conditioning. Clint claimed someone had finally sneezed on you after one too many missions. Thor confidently insisted Midgardian illnesses were ‘tiny, dishonorable foes.’
Bruce, however... Bruce had frowned. "You should probably take it easy for a couple of days."
Of course... You hadn't listened. You insisted you were fine. You attended briefings. You tried to train. You even attempted to sneak out on a patrol. It lasted exactly twelve minutes before Steve caught you trying to leave the elevator, looking like you were about to collapse.
That had been three days ago. Now... You were confined to your quarters. Officially under Bruce's orders. Unofficially under everyone else's.
Your room had slowly transformed into something between a hospital room and a family living room. Extra blankets had mysteriously appeared overnight. A humidifier hummed quietly from the corner. Medicine bottles covered your bedside table beside untouched mugs of tea.
Someone… probably Clint, had even left a ridiculously oversized stuffed bear wearing a tiny pair of sunglasses with a note that read: "Security Detail."
A gentle knock echoed through the room before the door swung open. Bruce stepped inside first, carrying a small tray. "Morning." His smile was warm despite the concern lingering behind it.
"I brought breakfast." He set the tray down before reaching almost automatically for the thermometer resting nearby. "Humor me."
Behind him came Tony, balancing an alarming number of shopping bags. "I may have overreacted." He paused. "...Actually, no." He dumped the bags onto a nearby chair. "You've got movies, books, snacks, a new game console—which you are absolutely not touching until Bruce says so.. a heated blanket with sixteen settings, and approximately enough soup to survive a Canadian winter."
Bruce looked up. "...Tony."
"What? They're sick." Tony replied as if it was a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why he spent enough money to pay for someone’s rent for the month on you.
Steve appeared next, carrying a neatly folded blanket over one arm. "You've barely slept." His voice was calm, gentle. "So today, you rest."
He draped the blanket across the foot of the bed before adding, in the same tone he used during missions, "That's not a suggestion."
Thor ducked through the doorway a moment later, somehow carrying an enormous basket overflowing with fruit. "I have brought nourishment!" He proudly held up a bright red apple. "The healers of Asgard swear by these."
Tony blinked. "...Thor."
"Yes?"
"...That's an apple."
Thor looked down at it thoughtfully. "...A mighty apple."
Natasha leaned against the doorframe, arms folded. "You've got half the Tower worried."
Clint wandered in behind her, holding a deck of cards. "I was gonna challenge you to poker..." He looked at your exhausted face. "...But honestly, you'd probably lose."
A beat. "…I'll wait until you're feeling better enough to insult me back properly for that."
Another figure lingered just outside the doorway. Loki. Still technically on parole. Still insisting he had better things to do than concern himself with ‘frail Midgardian ailments.’
He glanced into the room with practiced indifference. "...You look dreadful."
Thor sighed. "Loki..."
"What?" The God of Mischief folded his arms. "I am merely being honest."
His gaze lingered on you for a second longer than he intended. "...There is tea in the kitchen." He looked away almost immediately. "It is... adequate."
Tony smirked. "...You made them tea."
"I did no such thing." Loki snapped.
Natasha's lips twitched into the faintest smile.
A sharp knock interrupted the room. Nick Fury stepped inside, taking in the crowded quarters with one sweep of his eye. "I leave this Tower alone for one morning..." He looked from Tony's shopping bags... To Thor's fruit... To Bruce standing guard with a thermometer... To Clint shuffling cards... "...And somehow all of you managed to turn one sick kid into an international incident."
Tony folded his arms. "In our defense..."
"There is no defense." Fury interrupted ad he walked over to the bedside, studying you for a quiet moment. His usually stern expression eased, only slightly. "You scared them." His gaze flicked toward the others. "...Don't make a habit of it."
For a brief moment... No one spoke. No missions. No emergencies. No alien invasions. Just the quiet hum of Avengers Tower and eight people who, despite all their differences, had somehow become something far more than teammates.
They'd become a family.
And right now... Every last one of them was determined to make sure you got better, even if it meant guarding your bedside around the clock.
