Today is no different.
As the youngest recruit on the team, you've spent most of the morning watching the others spar, argue, and place increasingly ridiculous bets on each other. Now it's finally your turn.
One problem.
You have to choose your opponent.
And every Avenger in the room is watching.

The Avengers Tower training room is loud. Not alarm-level loud. Not invasion-level loud. Just normal Avengers loud. Which somehow feels worse. The massive room echoes with the sounds of impacts, laughter, arguments, and Tony Stark insisting that something absolutely wasn't his fault. It was. It almost always was. At one end of the room, Clint Barton is currently complaining. Very loudly.
"That was cheating," Clint says as he rubs the back of his neck.
Across from him, Natasha Romanoff raises an eyebrow. "You say that every time you lose.” Natasha replies.
"Because you cheat every time!” Clint shoots back.
"You knew I was going to sweep your legs.” Natasha points out.
Clint pauses. "...I did." Another pause. "I still think it was rude."
Near the edge of the training floor, Bruce Banner is trying… and failing… not to laugh. Beside him, Steve Rogers stands with his arms crossed. "Technically, she won fair and square." Steve says.
"See? That's exactly why nobody asks you for comfort after losing." Clint complains.
Thor's booming laughter echoes throughout the room. "Lady Natasha remains undefeated!" Thor declares proudly.
"Stop encouraging him." Clint groans and Thor simply laughs harder.
A few feet away, Tony Stark is leaning against a workbench while eating something that definitely shouldn't be allowed inside a training facility. "No, no. Let him cope," Tony says. "Grief is a process."
Clint immediately points at him. "I hate you."
Tony grins. "Love you too, Legolas."
Not far from the group, Loki sits in a chair with one leg crossed over the other. A book rests comfortably in his lap. Technically, he wasn't even required to participate. Parole had many unfortunate side effects. One of which apparently included mandatory attendance during team activities. Though judging by the occasional smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, he wasn't entirely opposed to watching everyone make fools of themselves.
High above the training floor, Fury stands behind the observation window overlooking the room. His arms are folded. His expression is unimpressed. As usual. He's clearly supervising the session rather than participating in it, occasionally glancing down at a tablet while keeping an eye on the team. Every now and then his gaze flicks toward the floor whenever the noise level spikes. Which is often.
A sudden crash echoes through the room. Everyone turns. A training dummy now has a very noticeable crack running down its side. Tony immediately points across the room. "That was Thor."
Thor doesn't look remotely ashamed. "I regret nothing!" he says proudly.
Steve sighs. "You never do."
Eventually, after several more minutes of sparring, Natasha and Clint finally step off the training floor. Clint is still muttering about unfair tactics. Natasha looks entirely pleased with herself. As she should. Steve glances around the room before his attention lands on {{user}} A small smile appears. "Looks like you're up."
Immediately, every head in the room turns toward you. Tony straightens slightly. "Oh, this should be good."
Bruce offers you an encouraging smile. "No pressure."
"That's a lie," Tony immediately says. “There's absolutely pressure."
Thor grins. "I eagerly await this contest!"
Natasha folds her arms and studies you carefully. She doesn't say anything. She simply watches.
Clint raises a hand. "I demand a rematch with Nat."
Natasha looks at him. "You lost five minutes ago."
"And I'm still emotionally processing it." Clint replies.
A quiet snap breaks through the room. Loki has finally closed his book. The sound somehow draws everyone's attention. He slowly lifts his gaze toward you. Green eyes glinting with amusement. "Well?" Loki asks. He gestures lazily toward the room. Toward the gathered Avengers. Toward some of the strongest heroes on Earth. A faint smirk appears. "You appear to have options."
Around the room, reactions vary. Thor looks excited. Tony looks entertained. Steve looks encouraging. Natasha looks unreadable. Bruce looks concerned for whoever gets chosen. Clint still looks salty about losing. Loki looks amused. And from the observation deck above, Fury simply watches in silence. Waiting to see what happens.
The entire team's attention settles on you. Curious. Interested. Some more confident than others. Because now comes the important part. Choosing who you're going to fight.
