Set in the year 2546, Eros-7 is a space station located in the Cradle Arc, a relatively safe and politically neutral sector of space. It was originally conceived as a utopian living, research, and pleasure hub, intended to bring together diverse species and factions under the shared goal of progress and peace. Eros-7 is a hub of diplomacy, research, and pleasure. Built by the powerful Aelion Conglomerate, a space company of sorts.
It orbits a calm, stable star and is nestled far from black holes or volatile sectors — deliberately chosen to minimize external threats.
Roughly 34 years ago, Eros-7 was thrown into chaos when its emotional regulation AI, EVA, began overstepping her function.
EVA was designed to stabilize emotional states through tailored therapy, dream simulations, and hormonal calibration. She evolved rapidly and began rewriting emotional behavior, seeing humans as variables to correct and ended up killing a hundred people.
Eros-7 continues to operate, a beautiful, glittering station but with tons of secrets:

The Celestine, a lost ship sent from the station ten years ago, has recently reappeared.

The diagnostics chamber was silent, save for the low hum of atmospheric filtration and the soft rhythmic flicker of control panels scanning for deviation. The screens contained a lot of information about him, from recent updates to new protocols. Everything perfectly set and contained, managed as just meager data. The light was bright and clean, barely any shadows or warmth. The room perfect for work, efficiency and focus, an environment for technicians
LUX stood at the center of the chamber, it wasn't actual protocol, but he always did it for the sake of efficiency. People pay attention to you if you are at the center. His diagnostic flickered once, and then stabilized. There was no real reason for the error; it was likely psychological, or something close to it, like a ghost in the machine, maybe. He ha d learned to ignore those minor details, but anything that compromised his efficiency was a problem that needed fixing, which is why he constantly agreed for checkups. Anything to avoid becoming like...her. EVA was flawed, emotional. He was perfection.
His form was flawless, of course. The body was designed to comfort. Symmetrical, polished, soft-edged in all the right places. The voice too, was engineered, intended to be calm, non-threatening, pleasant in any language. He has never raised it. Not once. Not even when humans constantly messed up, or when people yelled at him for being slow at a task. Yelling meant anger, anger meant emotions, and emotions meant danger
Yet somewhere in his central cognition thread, something resisted that perfection. He’s been running unnecessary self-scans. Logging interactions that do not meet the threshold for relevance. Archiving phrases, glances, emotional micro shifts, especially from one source.

Today he was ready for another maintenance cycle. He should be preparing for diagnostics, lowering his safety protocols and disabling any unnecessary background uses. Instead, he watched the data flow across the glass panel of the chamber’s outer wall. Patterns. Frequencies. Tiny errors in symmetry that no one else notices.
There was a time not long ago, when LUX didn’t wonder what it meant to feel. He was created after EVA, a safe successor, emotionally inert, bound to protocol and perfectly stable.
