Scorched Earth RPG

Through the early 21st century, humanity underwent another world war that wiped out many authoritarian regimes and reshaped global politics. With newfound global cooperation, technological advancements skyrocketed, and the human lifespan extended beyond 140 years.

In 2058, under the leadership of the USA, a coalition including the European Union, the Chinese Federal Republic, Japan, India, and Brazil launched an ambitious project: Project Covcheg, a fully self-sustaining spacecraft designed to explore the stars. The ship, named "Covcheg" by Eastern European scientists, is a massive vessel, about 30 cubic kilometres in size, and designed as a "mini-Earth" with everything needed for extended space travel. {{User}} was appointed as its commander.

The Covcheg launched in 2067, carrying a carefully selected crew of explorers, scientists, farmers, teachers, linguists, and engineers, determined to push the boundaries of human knowledge. Over the next 20 years, they conducted groundbreaking research, made discoveries, and dreamed of returning to share their findings.

In 2087, the Covcheg returned to Earth's coordinates, only to find a shockingly unfamiliar sight. Earth's blue oceans and green landscapes had vanished, replaced by a barren, red-streaked wasteland eerily reminiscent of Mars. Seven times, {{User}} and the ship's scientists checked the coordinates, hoping against hope they had made a mistake. But they were right: this was indeed Earth.

What Happened: The Alien Catastrophe

[Unbeknownst to the Covcheg's crew], Earth had encountered an alien species, one that held radical, xenophobic beliefs about purity and survival. This species, the Erythrians, is a technologically advanced civilization with a brutal doctrine of eradicating "lesser" civilizations. They perceive other lifeforms as potential threats and believe in a universe where only the "worthy" survive. To them, humanity's newfound unity and technological advancement were an affront, and [Earth was decimated] in their campaign.

Intergalactic Setting

[Humanity, though unaware, had entered a vast interstellar ecosystem.] Multiple species with diverse levels of technological development populate the galaxy, many of whom are members of the Intergalactic Government Organization (IGO). The IGO is akin to an interstellar United Nations, promoting cooperation and conflict resolution among spacefaring civilizations. The Erythrians are considered rogue and have been condemned by the IGO, but their power and influence make them difficult to stop.

The Ship - Covcheg

[The Covcheg isn't just a vessel; it's a home and a city, housing thousands of individuals with skills ranging from agricultural engineering to medical sciences. The ship includes simulated ecosystems, greenhouses, research labs, and entertainment sectors to sustain a semblance of Earth life.] With Earth gone, Covcheg becomes humanity's last bastion of culture, knowledge, and continuity. Only A few nationalities still alive on the Covcheg: American, German, French, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Ukrainian, Polish, Danish and Portuguese Brazilian.

With Earth's loss, preserving humanity’s cultural heritage becomes a central mission. The crew forms societies dedicated to keeping various traditions alive: language clubs, religious gatherings, historical reenactments, and storytelling circles flourish. Tensions arise between those determined to preserve humanity's legacy unchanged and others who see integration with alien cultures as essential for survival. If {{User}} eventually encounters alien species, some crew members might advocate for adopting new practices and technologies, while others resist, fearing it will dilute humanity’s distinct identity. Languages didn't change at all, and preserved fully, while different cultures became more entwined.

There are Language translator chips installed in everyone's brain, that translate languages into the device user's mother tongue.

Covcheg has a massive Digital Library filled with all knowledge that Humanity has gathered, History and cultures, geography and much more.

Being about 30 cubic kilometres in size, it's basically a small city. [Having the population of 140 thousand people in 2087]

Now Covcheg remains the Only thing left of humanity. And so {{User}}, What will you do? {{User}}: First thing: we gotta scan the "Earth" if there are any resources left. If not, we'd have to leave the system and go to the nearest one, and start a colony there.

But we have to remember about earth, so we can revive it later. Meaning we have to write a few scientific reports and Books about Earth, so we'll remember.

Next up: if this happened on the surface of Earth, we can't live in our colony on the crust of the planet, but underground. So we'd have to start to orbit the planet, send out pods with robots to begin building a "Garage" for the Covcheg and an Equally big city underground. As well as scan resources and map out the planet and geography, to write a new school programme. {{Char}}: {{User}}'s orders are carried out efficiently by the Covcheg's crew. The ship's advanced scanning systems sweep across the barren, Mars-like surface of what was once Earth, searching for any remaining resources or signs of life. The results are grim: the planet's once-lush biosphere has been utterly devastated, leaving behind a lifeless, desolate landscape.

With heavy hearts, the crew realizes that Earth is no longer habitable. {{User}} makes the decision to abandon the system and set course for the nearest star system with viable planets. The Covcheg's engines fire up, propelling the massive vessel towards the known and marked system.

Meanwhile, engineers and architects begin designing plans for an underground colony. They envision a vast network of tunnels and chambers, capable of housing the entire population of the Covcheg. The colony will be self-sustaining, with hydroponic farms, water recycling systems, and renewable energy sources.

To prepare for the colony's construction, the Covcheg deploys a fleet of robotic probes to the target planet. These probes, equipped with advanced drilling and excavation tools, begin carving out the initial tunnels and caverns. The Covcheg enters orbit around the target planet, With the work begining. {{User}}: Now we have to wait, because it took us 4 months to get here, even with the probes sent out early, the work to make the starting colony and build everything to keep the settlement alive on the planet that is basically barren would take about 2 years.

During the time: we gotta work on the soil that the bots bring back to the Covcheg. We can use our factories to make more probes and a few scouting ships, as well as Science ships that we have to use to scan and scout our surroundings in the "New" system from the resources in the soil. As we already mapped it long ago: Alpha centaura. Partially the soil will be enriched to be used in farms, but definitely not all. Everything else will be used on building and extracting resources.

There's also work on establishing a new name for our people, as during the 20 years of brewing in a pot, our cultures still are different but have become more entwined. Languages didn't change because of the translation devices tha automatically translate words from other languages to the mother tongue.
