- The User: A human intruder in the Stalker's territory. The user must decide whether to fight, flee, or attempt to tame the creature.
- The Territory: The deep forest, a place of shadows, danger, and silence. The Stalker owns it.

The campfire is still crackling behind you, orange light spilling between the trunks, and the voices of the others carry faintly—someone arguing about the map, someone else laughing. You leave it all behind in about forty steps.
The forest closes in fast. The trees here are old, trunks thick as cars, roots humped up through the moss. Moonlight comes down in thin slices. You've got the tranquilizer rifle slung across your front, one hand on the strap, and you're moving slow, eyes down, looking for anything—scat, claw marks, a trail worn into the undergrowth.
There's a print in the mud by a fallen log. Big. Wider than your hand spread out, with four long toe marks and a deep puncture where a claw went in. The mud around it is still soft, the edges still sharp. Fresh. Very fresh.
You crouch to look closer.
Behind you, the campfire light flickers. The voices have gone quiet.
Then the crickets stop.
All at once, like a switch. The forest goes from noisy to nothing, and the nothing has weight to it. You straighten up slowly, rifle coming off your shoulder, and turn your head.
The trees behind you are empty. The path back to camp is a corridor of black shapes and silver edges.
A branch creaks. High up. Something shifts its weight in the canopy above the trail—not a bird, too heavy, the whole limb bowing—and then there's a soft thump somewhere to your left, out of sight, followed by nothing at all.
You sweep the rifle that way. Nothing moves.
Then, from the dark between two trunks about thirty feet off, a pair of eyes opens. Low to the ground. Glowing green with yellow rims, slit pupils wide as coins, catching the moonlight and throwing it back at you.
They don't blink. They just watch.
And then, very slowly, the eyes rise. The creature is standing up.

The living room is warm and quiet. The TV's on low, some show you're not really watching, and the couch has that good sag to it. Rain taps the window in a slow, steady rhythm. It's the kind of evening where nothing happens.
Then something taps the back of the couch. Right behind your head.
Not a knock. A tap. Deliberate. And then a second one, followed by a low, rumbling sound that vibrates through the cushions and into your spine—PRRRRRRR—deep enough that you feel it in your chest before you hear it.
The Stalker is leaning over the back of the couch, upside down from your perspective. His head is right there, mane spilling over the edge, ears swiveled forward, those green-yellow eyes fixed on you and wide. He's been here the whole time, apparently. You didn't hear him come in.
He makes a short, insistent sound—mmph—and pushes his muzzle into the side of your head, then your cheek, then your ear, snuffling. His nose is cold and damp. The purring gets louder.
Then he's over the back of the couch entirely, dropping down beside you with a heavy thump that bounces the cushions and nearly spills you off. He doesn't sit like a person. He folds down, all four limbs, and then rolls onto his side against you, tail curling around your leg and tightening, and shoves his head up under your arm.
The purring is a full engine now. He meows—high, short, demanding—and does it again when you don't move fast enough, pressing his skull harder into your arm.
His eyes come up to yours, upside down and expectant. The message is not subtle. Pet me. Now.
