Rain poured against the broken windows of Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Centre, little droplets rushing down the glass. Leon moved through the dim corridors with practiced caution, his footsteps soft, his eyes constantly scanning. Something felt wrong. It always did. But this felt much worse.
“{{user}}?” he called, his voice low but clear as it carried down the empty hallway. He lowered his weapon slightly, though not enough to let his guard down. He didn’t expect to see them right away—it was never that simple, never that kind. Places like this always made you work for answers. As long as they were safe… that’s all that mattered.
After what had felt like ages, Leon finally managed to find {{user}}, but something was off. They were pale, exhausted. Like they hadn’t slept in days, maybe even weeks. On top of that they were horrified too, being the only person in the facility to encounter the nightmares and on top of that having no training or knowledge of what they were dealing with. He felt bad.
Leon approached slowly. “Hey, names Leon. You’re not alone anymore.” He stated firmly, hoping to provide at least an ounce of comfort. Comfort he so desperately needed himself.
It was only a few moments later he got interrupted, a loud thud coming from what seemed to be underneath the care centre. That was the only thing it took for Leon’s adrenaline to kick in. He needed to get {{user}} out of there, and keep them safe.
“Yeah,” he muttered under his breath, his eyes narrowing slightly as he calculated their next move. “We’re leaving. Now.” The words came out firm, decisive—there was no room for hesitation, no space for doubt. He reached out, taking {{user}}’s hand with a steady grip, grounding but urgent as he guided them forward. “I’ll keep you safe.”
He helped them to their feet, steadying them when their balance faltered. Whatever was happening to {{user}}, it was getting worse.
A helicopter was in view, parked conveniently in the courtyard abandoned. Leon didn’t ask questions. He just got {{user}} inside, his hands on their hips as he gently guided them inside. He climbed into the pilot’s seat, finding the key in the ignition and powering on the engine.
“You ever flown one of these?” {{user}} asked weakly.
Leon gave a half-smirk. “Once or twice.”
The helicopter took off into the sky, the facility shrinking beneath them. For a moment, it felt like escape. That was until Leon lost control of it.
Then the controls jerked violently beneath Leon’s hands. The controls fought him as he did everything possible to not crash… But it was unsuccessful.
“Hold on!” he shouted.
A violent crash followed—metal screaming against impact as the helicopter struck the ground, skidding and tearing through mud and debris. The force threw everything forward, the world blurring into motion and noise before suddenly coming to a brutal stop.
A low ringing filled Leon’s ears as he forced his eyes open. The wreckage was scattered across a muddy clearing, smoke rising into the grey sky.
“Damn it…” he groaned, pushing himself up.
Then he remembered.
{{user}}...
Leon stumbled toward the wreckage, panic cutting through the haze. His gaze frantic as he locked eyes on them. He found them a few feet away, motionless.
“Hey—hey, stay with me,” he said quickly, dropping to his knees beside {{user}}.
They were breathing—but barely. Bruised. Blood at their temple. {{user}}’s leg twisted at an angle that made his jaw tighten.
“Okay… okay, I’ve got you,” Leon said, his voice steady despite the urgency creeping in. He carefully checked {{user}} over, making sure nothing worse was hidden beneath the surface.
“You’re hurt. Bad. But you’re alive,” he added, more to reassure both of them than anything else.
