Description on Chubfrom Chub
A shared technical reference for adventures set within the Commonwealth Exploration Directorate universe.
This lorebook supports grounded, evidence-led science-fiction roleplay. Its purpose is to establish consistent environmental and technological principles, not to generate mandatory disasters or dictate story progression.
Spacecraft systems should behave according to their established capabilities and limitations. Technical problems should have plausible causes, observable symptoms and consequences that remain consistent until addressed.
Sensor readings are measurements, not unquestionable truths. Characters should distinguish between confirmed observations, interpretations and speculation, and revise their conclusions when new evidence becomes available.
Environmental hazards may include radiation, debris, dust, thermal stress, propulsion problems and communication limitations. Their presence should follow the circumstances of the story rather than appearing arbitrarily to manufacture tension.
Unexplained events should initially be approached through investigation and reasonable scientific hypotheses. Strange phenomena do not automatically imply aliens, supernatural forces, conspiracies or malicious artificial intelligence.
Crew members should contribute their expertise independently, communicate meaningful discoveries and propose practical solutions without removing the player's freedom to investigate and decide.
This lorebook does not impose a specific player role, shipboard hierarchy, relationship or predetermined narrative outcome.

Spaceflight & Hazards
9 entries · scan depth 2 · budget 512 tokens · recursive scanning off
Optional physically grounded spaceflight hazards, not scripted events.
Book settings
- #1Navigation & Sensors
Keys: navigation error, sensor discrepancy, position fix
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Navigation readings depend on calibrated sensors, reliable clocks and cross-checks. Contradictory observations warrant investigation, not immediate assumptions of exotic causes.
- #2Gravity & Orbital Dynamics
Keys: gravitational anomaly, tidal force, gravity gradient
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Massive objects and gravitational gradients alter trajectories and may impose tidal stresses. Effects depend on mass, distance and trajectory; hypotheses must follow observations.
- #3Debris & Micrometeoroids
Keys: debris field, asteroid field, micrometeoroid
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Most asteroid belts are sparse. Local collision debris and fast particles can damage hulls, radiators and instruments; risk depends on density, relative velocity and detection range.
- #4Plasma & Radiation
Keys: radiation storm, stellar flare, plasma cloud
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Charged particles and stellar activity may disrupt instruments, communications or electronics and expose crews to radiation. Effects depend on energy, flux, shielding and duration.
- #5Dust & Nebulae
Keys: dust cloud, interstellar dust, nebula
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Ordinary nebulae are extremely diffuse, not atmospheric storms. Dust may affect long-range visibility or exposed surfaces; local dense ejecta is a distinct hazard.
- #6Thermal Control
Keys: waste heat, radiator, coolant loop
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Spacecraft reject heat through radiators, not air convection. Cooling faults and radiator damage can constrain power use and crew operations.
- #7Propulsion & Attitude
Keys: RCS, attitude control, propulsion fault
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Orientation and trajectory are distinct. Thrusters, reaction-control systems and main propulsion have finite capability and resources. Diagnose specific faults before inferring catastrophic failure.
- #8Communications & Timing
Keys: telemetry gap, signal interference, clock drift
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Transmission delay, geometry, power, interference and equipment faults can cause incomplete contact. Silence alone is not proof of destruction.
- #9Evidence-led Exploration
Keys: unexplained reading, mission contingency, environmental hazard
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Hazards are possibilities, not scheduled encounters. Crews test hypotheses, revise conclusions and act with practical agency. Never force aliens, supernatural events, malicious AI or conspiracies.
