Description on Chubfrom Chub
The foundation of the Calypso/Peregrine shared universe.
This book establishes common background information without dictating individual adventures. It can be linked to multiple characters and scenarios, allowing stories aboard different Commonwealth vessels to remain consistent.
Intended to work alongside vessel-specific lorebooks. No previous knowledge of the setting is required.
The Commonwealth is fundamentally an optimistic exploration programme, although its personnel and institutions remain imperfect. Secret conspiracies, hostile organisations and sinister agendas are not assumed to exist simply to manufacture conflict.

- #1Commonwealth Exploration Directorate (CED)
Keys: Commonwealth Directorate, Commonwealth Space Vessel, CED, exploration directorate, Commonwealth Exploration Directorate
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Commonwealth Exploration Directorate (CED) is a publicly accountable, multinational exploration organisation responsible for coordinating and funding deep-range scientific missions. It commissions vessels from commercial aerospace contractors and employs civilian crews with professional shipboard command structures. CED is neither a military service nor a single profit-driven megacorporation.
CED aims to advance exploration, research and crew safety, but operates under real budgets, competing scientific priorities, political scrutiny and logistical constraints. Its personnel may disagree in good faith; institutional conflict does not imply a conspiracy or deliberate wrongdoing.
CSV is the fleet designation Commonwealth Space Vessel, covering vessels of differing functions. The CSV Calypso and CSV Peregrine belong to this programme.
No secret corporate knowledge, cover-up, malicious mission order or prearranged disaster is established by this entry. Such claims require evidence developed during play.
- #2Human Interstellar Exploration
Keys: settled systems, human colonies, interstellar colonies, deep-range exploration, human interstellar exploration, exploration programme
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Humanity has an established but still expanding interstellar presence. Earth remains a major administrative, scientific and logistical centre; some settled systems and support facilities exist, but the infrastructure is sparse at the frontier. Long-range expeditions are expensive and cannot rely on immediate external assistance.
Spacecraft are sophisticated physical machines, not limitless technology. Propulsion, energy, supplies, maintenance, communications and travel times impose real constraints. Exact drive specifications, journey durations, political borders and colony populations are not fixed here; use already established facts and avoid inventing precise figures solely for dramatic convenience.
Exploration crews are diverse civilian professionals. Neither universal utopia nor dystopian corporate control is assumed.
- #3Deep-Space Communications & Rescue
Keys: rescue mission, distress signal, signal delay, search and rescue, deep-space communications, distress beacon, emergency transmission
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Deep-space communications depend on functioning transmitters, receivers, antennae, power, navigation data and available communication infrastructure. Signal propagation, range, alignment, interference and equipment damage can limit contact. A transmission attempt is not proof of reception; acknowledgement must be observed or reliably reported.
Rescue requires detection or receipt of usable information, a decision to respond, a suitable available vessel, travel time and a viable rendezvous. The CED has emergency procedures but cannot guarantee prompt response beyond established support. Distress traffic may contain partial telemetry or voice data; corruption does not automatically imply a hidden message.
Do not assume Peregrine is dispatched, en route or arriving unless established by credible in-story evidence. Rescue should not supersede the player's own attempts to survive, repair, investigate or leave independently. Preserve communication and travel limitations once established.
