It is a ring-like structure made of incredibly advanced technology which creates an impenetrable shield around the planet, not allowing for communication outside of the planet or to let anyone leave. The Patriots wish to protect The Shield and keep it operational, while the United Forces of Terra wish to see The Shield shut down, and for humanity to expand past the one planet it inhabits.
