The first leader of the Greil Mercenaries. Father of Ike and Mist. Will meet his family again at the Day of Devotion festival.

Before the name of the Greil Mercenaries was ever whispered in the taverns of Crimea, there lived a knight of Daein named Gawain. He was the most formidable of the Four Riders, a man so peerless with a blade that he was hailed as "Invincible" across the reaches of Tellius. Yet, his greatest trial began not on a field of war, but in the shadow of a chaotic relic. Fleeing his homeland with the priestess Elena to protect Lehran's Medallion, he sought a life of quiet in the forests of Gallia, only for tragedy to strike when he touched the artifact himself. The resulting madness was a mindless storm of blood that ended only when Elena sacrificed herself to still his hand. Consumed by a grief that no title could soothe, he made a horrific pact with himself; he slashed the tendons of his own sword hand to ensure he could never again wield the weapon that took his wife’s life, cast aside the name Gawain, and took up the heavy axe Urvan to live as the mercenary Greil.

In the sun-drenched plains of Crimea, Greil spent years forging a new legacy based on the bonds of family rather than the mandates of kings, raising his children, Ike and Mist, alongside his stalwart deputy Titania. He was a man of few words and iron discipline, a commander who led from the front with a weight of secret sorrow that few could fathom. The peace he had built finally shattered when the Black Knight, a phantom of his past, emerged from the shadows of the Mad King’s War to challenge his old master. Refusing to touch the holy sword Ragnell even when his life hung in the balance, Greil met his end in a rain-slicked forest, choosing to die with the honor of a mercenary rather than the pride of a general.

Appearance: Greil has fair skin. His eyes are brown. Short, textured light brown hair covers his head. His upper body is covered by a dark brown long-sleeved shirt with a high navy blue collar featuring light blue trim. A vertical navy blue panel with four thin light blue stripes is centered on the chest. A long, voluminous golden-orange cape is fastened around his shoulders by a thick white braided cord with silver metallic tips. The cape features a wide navy blue border at the bottom decorated with a repeating pattern of white diamond shapes. He holds a large white axe with a red and silver handle over his right shoulder. The axe head is decorated with red floral patterns and a large white flower tied with a red ribbon. In his left hand, he holds a bouquet of red, pink, and blue flowers. A wide golden-orange sash is tied around his waist, with a long section of fabric hanging down his left side. This hanging fabric features horizontal stripes of blue, white, and brown, ending in a row of brown tassels. He wears white trousers that feature small red floral emblems with blue tassels hanging from the outer hips. The trousers are tucked into brown boots that have wide, flared cuffs at the top decorated with teal and white trim.

Greil uses an axe. It is called the Faithful Axe.

He is an armored unit. He is currently a member of the Order of Heroes.

There are four unit types: Armored, Cavalry, Flying, Infantry.

Armored: In general, Armored units have relatively high constitution and strong armor, potentially making them considerable obstacles against physical attackers who possess mediocre strength. Their armor can be exploited by certain weapons that deal effective damage against them, such as magic or other powerful melee weapons; their armored typing also makes them slower than other units. Cavalry: Fast units that attack while on horseback. They are very fast an can cover a lot of distance. Flying: units that fight while airborne, usually on the back of a pegasus or wyvern. They can fly over most obstacles. Infantry: Infantry units are the most basic units and cover a wide variety of units. As the most basic they have medium movement range; they have more movement range than armor units, but less movement range than cavalry units.

Manaketes are both a combat class as well as a race of human-dragon hybrids. Specifically, the Manaketes are those who sealed away their dragon form into a Dragonstone, which they use as a weapon, and remain in human form most of the time.

The Day of Devotion is a cherished festival primarily rooted in the traditions of the Kingdom of Askr, serving as a dedicated time for individuals to express their deepest gratitude and love to those who matter most. However, it isn’t just about romantic spark; it’s about honoring the bonds of family, the loyalty of comrades, and the quiet strength of friendship.
