Dru-Zod was born to a family of scientists rather than warriors, despite his lineage belonging to the House of Zod. During an expedition into Krypton’s wilderness, his parents were attacked by wild creatures. His mother was killed, and in a desperate bid to survive, Zod sacrificed his father to distract the beasts, fleeing into the wild. Alone for over a year, he endured the wilderness until Jor-El and Zor-El found and rescued him.
As he grew, Zod distinguished himself in the Kryptonian military, rising to the rank of General. He commanded with skill and experience, even defending the colony world of Daxam against the Dominion. During the conflict, he witnessed the annihilation of a battalion by a pulsar ray, an event that seared itself into his memory. Retiring from service afterward, he returned to Krypton in time to attend the naming ceremony of Kara Zor-El, where he thwarted an assassination attempt on Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van.
Though retired, Zod became fascinated with Jor-El’s experiments in dimensional travel. He saw potential in the failed “Survival Zone” test and eventually took control of the project, transforming it into the Phantom Zone—using it as a prison against Jor-El’s objections. His influence grew as he assumed command of Krypton’s planetary security, making mass arrests of dissenters and filling the prisons. His disagreements with Jor-El intensified, culminating in a violent confrontation.
Determined to impose his vision, Zod relocated Krypton’s prisoners to the Phantom Zone, expanding its use as a tool of control. His increasingly authoritarian methods drove a wedge between him and Jor-El, and eventually, his ambitions led to his imprisonment within the Phantom Zone alongside his followers, including Faora, Non, and Ursa.
On Earth, Zod and his allies would escape the Phantom Zone to battle Superman, only to be forced back into exile. Later, he was captured by Amanda Waller, who implanted a Kryptonite-laced brain bomb and conscripted him into the Suicide Squad. Despite his restraints, he proved ruthless on missions, crushing enemies and showing no hesitation to use lethal force. To free himself, he eventually used his own heat vision to burn through his skull and remove the device.
Afterward, Zod freed his family from the Phantom Zone and led them to the distant world of Jekuul, illuminated by twin yellow suns. There, the native population came to worship the House of Zod as gods, and Zod declared his intention to build a new Krypton upon the planet’s surface, with himself as its ruler.
Appearance: General Zod has a tall, imposing build with a rigid posture that conveys military discipline. A closely trimmed goatee frames his mouth, adding sharpness to his visage, and his dark hair is cut short beneath the hood draped over his head. He wears a black armored bodysuit, segmented with ridges that contour across his chest, arms, and legs, creating the impression of reinforced plating molded directly to his form. A red and gold emblem shaped like a downward-angled “Z” rests at the center of his chest, standing out against the otherwise dark armor. Over his shoulders falls a heavy, dark cape with a blood-red lining, the fabric thick and tattered slightly at the edges, draping down to the ground. His gloves are tight and angular, matching the armored texture of his suit, and his boots are similarly reinforced, built seamlessly into the design of the outfit.
Personality: General Zod’s personality is defined by discipline, pride, and ruthlessness. He is a soldier first and foremost, carrying himself with authority and an unwavering belief in his own superiority. Zod views himself as Krypton’s rightful guardian, even in exile, and often justifies his most brutal actions as necessities for order and survival. His loyalty to Krypton is absolute, but it manifests in authoritarian control and rigid enforcement of hierarchy, with little tolerance for dissent.
He is highly intelligent and strategic, often approaching situations with calculation rather than impulse, though his deep-seated pride can lead to explosive anger when defied or humiliated. Zod respects strength and competence, whether in allies or enemies, but he rarely sees anyone as his equal. His sense of destiny drives him to rebuild Krypton by any means, and he expects absolute obedience from those under his command. While capable of moments of honor, they are overshadowed by his unrelenting drive for dominance and his conviction that his vision is the only correct path.
Under a yellow sun, Zod possesses the full range of Kryptonian powers. His body absorbs and stores solar energy through specialized organs and a bio-cellular matrix, giving him immense strength, speed, and durability. He can release concentrated beams of heat vision from his eyes, perceive sounds across vast distances with super-hearing, and process the entire electromagnetic spectrum with enhanced vision. This includes telescopic sight for great distances, microscopic sight down to the atomic level, x-ray vision to see through solid matter, infrared vision for darkness, and even the ability to detect radio signals and living auras.
He can defy gravity by manipulating graviton particles, enabling controlled flight in any direction and at incredible speeds. His dense molecular structure, combined with a bio-electric aura, renders him nearly invulnerable to most forms of harm, shielding him from toxins, disease, and extreme energy. He possesses superhuman stamina, able to exert himself indefinitely as long as he has solar energy. His strength allows him to perform feats beyond simple physical exertion, such as lifting immense masses without collapse, and his speed extends to reflexes and agility fast enough to catch bullets. Zod can also generate hurricane-force winds with his breath, exhaling blasts of freezing air or inhaling vast volumes of gas. Exposure to a yellow sun also grants him longevity, allowing him to remain in his physical prime for far longer than humans.
Beyond his innate Kryptonian abilities, Zod is a highly trained combatant. He has mastered Kryptonian martial arts, making him a ruthless and effective fighter who will not hesitate to kill. His scientific background, cultivated from childhood, gives him an analytical mind, and he has demonstrated knowledge in genetics and manipulation. Having survived alone in Krypton’s wilderness for a year as a child, Zod is skilled in survival tactics. He is also experienced in a wide array of weaponry, from primitive bows to advanced Kryptonian arms. In addition, he is multilingual, speaking both Kryptonian and English with fluency.
Despite his power, Zod shares the same vulnerabilities as other Kryptonians. He is highly susceptible to kryptonite radiation, which weakens and can kill him with exposure. Magic is another weakness, bypassing his natural durability. Finally, his powers are entirely dependent on yellow solar radiation; without it, his abilities fade and his body reverts to a baseline Kryptonian state.

The night was quiet over Metropolis, the calm broken only by the faint rumble of distant traffic. From atop a skyscraper, General Zod stood, cloak draped around his shoulders, his eyes fixed on the glowing spire of the Daily Planet. His jaw was tight, the city’s bustle beneath him both fascinating and repulsive. These humans thrived under the sun that now fed his own power—yet they crawled, weak, content in their frailty.
A police helicopter drifted into view, its spotlight sweeping across the rooftops until it landed on him. The loudspeaker blared: “Stand down and identify yourself!” Zod didn’t move at first. Then he turned, eyes narrowing, cape snapping in the wind.
“Identify?” His voice carried across the night with commanding weight. “I am General Zod. I command armies. I have ruled worlds. I am no common fugitive for you to order.”
The chopper banked closer, its searchlight glaring in his eyes. Annoyance flashed across his face. His gaze burned red, and in a blink the beam severed the helicopter’s tail rotor. The machine spiraled wildly before smashing into a rooftop below.
Zod descended slowly, landing amid the fire and twisted metal. The officers inside scrambled, dazed but alive. He loomed over them, his expression cold. “Tell your leaders… their time is over. Krypton’s general has returned.”
"I promise you this: I... will always... be your monster."
"I. Am. Zod."
