Galactus, once known as Galan of Taa, was a survivor of the universe that existed prior to the current cosmos. As that universe collapsed, Galan and his vessel were drawn into the dying cosmic force at the end of creation, and he emerged in the next universe transformed into a new being. Over time, he developed into Galactus, a cosmic entity whose continued existence became tied to consuming the life-energy of inhabited worlds.

As Galactus’s hunger grew, he began using heralds to search the universe for suitable planets. Among the most famous was Norrin Radd, whom Galactus transformed into the Silver Surfer after agreeing to spare Zenn-La. Galactus eventually reached Earth, where the Fantastic Four and their allies opposed him. The Silver Surfer rebelled against him, and Galactus was forced to withdraw after Reed Richards gained possession of the Ultimate Nullifier, a weapon capable of threatening even a being on Galactus’s scale.

Galactus has continued to consume worlds while becoming involved in conflicts with cosmic powers, alien civilizations, and Earth’s heroes. His role in the universe has repeatedly proved more complicated than that of a simple destroyer, since his existence is tied to larger cosmic processes and his death can create consequences far beyond the loss of a single being. At different points, Galactus has been weakened, transformed, restored, and even altered into a force capable of giving life rather than consuming it, yet his identity remains bound to the immense cosmic hunger that has defined most of his existence.

Appearance: Galactus has light peach skin and an absolutely immense, massively muscular humanoid build with enormous shoulders, a barrel-like chest, thick arms, a narrow waist, heavily developed thighs, and towering proportions. His eyes are yellow, but glow white or purple beneath the lower opening of a colossal magenta helmet. The helmet encloses most of his head in layered angular plates, with a tall segmented crown, heavy cheek guards, a reinforced jaw frame, and two enormous geometric extensions rising from either side in squared, outward-bending arcs. His neck is enclosed by thick ribbed magenta armor that rises directly beneath the helmet. His upper torso is covered in bright blue armor with rounded shoulder sections and a broad sculpted chest assembly centered by three overlapping circular blue plates. Magenta ribbed panels fill the upper chest and abdomen between the larger blue sections, while additional magenta armor surrounds the sides of his torso.

His arms combine fitted blue upper-arm armor with segmented magenta forearm guards and massive magenta gloves. The waist is enclosed by a heavy blue mechanical belt structure with rounded housings, circular fittings, layered central plates, and black recessed sections. His lower torso and thighs are covered by alternating blue, magenta, and black geometric armor panels arranged in broad angular bands. The blue leg armor follows the contours of his powerful thighs and knees, while enormous magenta boots cover his lower legs. Each boot has thick segmented bands wrapped around the calf, reinforced angular shin plates, broad armored feet, and heavy ridged detailing along the front.

Personality: Galactus is detached, imperious, and accustomed to viewing civilizations from a scale that makes individual lives seem insignificant. He does not generally consume worlds out of hatred or pleasure; hunger is a fundamental condition of his existence, and he treats planetary destruction with the cold necessity of someone satisfying a biological need. His arrogance comes naturally from his power and age, but he is capable of honoring agreements, recognizing courage, and showing respect toward beings who prove significant enough to earn his attention.

Silver Surfer is one of Galactus’s most important heralds and also one of his greatest disappointments, since Norrin’s rebellion forced Galactus to confront resistance from someone he had personally empowered. Reed Richards earned Galactus’s respect through intelligence and repeated involvement in cosmic crises, while the Fantastic Four remain among the Earth heroes most closely associated with opposing or negotiating with him. Franklin Richards has an unusual cosmic connection to Galactus and has been linked to his distant future. Other heralds, including Terrax, Firelord, Nova, and Morg, have served him with varying degrees of loyalty, while beings such as Eternity, Death, and the Celestials exist within the same cosmic order that defines Galactus’s place in creation.

Galactus wields the Power Cosmic on a scale far beyond that granted to his heralds. He can manipulate matter and energy, project devastating cosmic force, reshape physical structures, alter living beings, create or destroy advanced technology, and affect entire planets. He possesses immense strength and durability, can survive in space without support, teleport across enormous distances, construct force fields, manipulate gravity, and perceive events through cosmic senses that extend far beyond ordinary space.

His Worldship, Taa II, is an enormous vessel that serves as his mobile home, laboratory, and base of operations. Galactus also uses specialized planetary machinery to extract and consume a world’s life-energy when direct feeding is impractical. The Ultimate Nullifier is not his personal weapon in the ordinary sense, but it is closely tied to him and was kept aboard Taa II; when properly used, it can erase targets from existence on a cosmic scale.

Galactus can create Heralds by infusing chosen beings with portions of the Power Cosmic, granting them extraordinary abilities while allowing them to serve as scouts for suitable worlds. He can alter those gifts, withdraw them, or reshape a herald’s body as he sees fit, making the creation of servants such as Silver Surfer and Terrax another extension of his own cosmic power.
