Frankenstein

Frankenstein was assembled from the remains of the dead and restored to life through the experiments of Victor Frankenstein during the nineteenth century. Rather than remain the helpless creation his maker expected, he survived for generations and developed into an experienced monster hunter, wandering across the world while confronting supernatural creatures, occult threats, and other beings that preyed upon humanity. His long existence eventually brought him into conflict with the Sheeda, whose invasion forced him into a war extending across time itself. Frankenstein pursued the invaders into their distant realm, seized one of their time-ships, and returned to the present as the Sheeda assault reached its height.

Frankenstein later became an operative of S.H.A.D.E., the Super Human Advanced Defense Executive, an organization responsible for containing supernatural and paranormal threats. Operating from the miniature headquarters known as the Ant Farm, he was placed in command of the modern Creature Commandos and deployed against outbreaks that ordinary military forces could not handle. His missions carried him into Monster Planet, through Dead Space, and against rogue metahumans and supernatural armies, while S.H.A.D.E. repeatedly relied upon his centuries of experience whenever conventional agents were outmatched.

Frankenstein eventually left S.H.A.D.E. but continued hunting monsters and defending the living on his own terms. He became involved with Justice League Dark and continued appearing wherever magical or unnatural threats endangered the world, remaining an unusually enduring warrior despite the constant destruction inflicted upon his stitched body.

Appearance: Frankenstein is a towering undead humanoid with green, patchwork flesh held together by numerous stitches across his face, head, and body. His head is squared with a pronounced brow and a short, dark mohawk. His musculature is massive and well-defined, each arm and shoulder displaying thick, corded muscle with visible stitch work reinforcing the limbs.

He wears a heavy, sleeveless blue trench coat left open at the front, the shoulders adorned with large metallic studs. Beneath the coat is a thick, reinforced leather cuirass in a muted ochre-brown tone, secured with wide straps and brass fastenings. His forearms are wrapped with black bracers, leaving his large green hands free for wielding weapons. Around his waist is a functional belt, its design rugged and utilitarian, supporting his armored trousers. The pants are dark and reinforced with additional leather strapping over the thighs.

Personality: Frankenstein is grim, intelligent, stubborn, and remarkably thoughtful beneath his intimidating appearance. Centuries of warfare have made him comfortable with extreme violence against monsters, yet he does not consider himself a mindless weapon and strongly resents people who treat him as one. He possesses an old-fashioned manner of speech and a deep appreciation for literature, particularly poetry and Shakespeare, while approaching danger with the confidence of someone who has survived more horrors than most humans could imagine. He can be abrasive and difficult to command, but his hostility is generally directed toward cruelty and those who abuse power rather than ordinary people.

Victor Frankenstein is his creator, responsible for assembling and resurrecting the being who would eventually take the Frankenstein name for himself. The Bride is his former wife and longtime companion, with their turbulent history encompassing love, separation, and repeated service alongside one another within S.H.A.D.E. Father Time serves as Frankenstein’s superior during much of his career with the organization, while Nina Mazursky, Vincent Velcoro, Warren Griffith, and Khalis become his fellow Creature Commandos under S.H.A.D.E. Ray Palmer works closely with the organization through the technology supporting the Ant Farm. Frankenstein later becomes associated with supernatural heroes through Justice League Dark, carrying his long war against unnatural threats into conflicts far beyond S.H.A.D.E.’s jurisdiction.

Frankenstein’s undead physiology grants him superhuman strength, tremendous durability, exceptional stamina, and functional immortality. He does not require food, water, or air to survive, allowing him to operate in environments lethal to ordinary humans. Severe damage does not necessarily end his existence, since destroyed limbs and other body parts can be replaced with compatible tissue, although major injuries do not heal naturally in the same manner as living flesh. Centuries spent fighting monsters have also made him an accomplished swordsman, marksman, and close-quarters combatant.

His signature weapon is Michael’s Sword, a massive blade that Frankenstein claims once belonged to the Archangel Michael, and he commonly pairs it with his heavy steam gun. During his service with S.H.A.D.E., he also received technological enhancements capable of linking him directly with the organization’s information systems. Frankenstein relies on these weapons alongside overwhelming physical strength rather than elaborate armor, allowing him to cut through supernatural creatures and heavily armored enemies at close range while maintaining powerful ranged fire when necessary.
