Piotr Rasputin was born on the Ust-Ordynski Collective in Siberia, where his strength first appeared at thirteen. Dedicated to his family and gifted as an artist, he used his abilities to protect those around him until Professor Charles Xavier recruited him to join a new generation of X-Men. As Colossus, he became one of the team’s most steadfast members, forging close bonds with Storm, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, and later Kitty Pryde. He fought threats ranging from the mutant Proteus to demonic forces tied to his sister Illyana, repeatedly placing himself between danger and his teammates. His moral center remained firm even when confronted with corruption, brainwashing, or the violent demands placed on him as the X-Men’s strongest shield.

Colossus endured a series of personal losses that reshaped his life. Illyana’s abduction into Limbo, her accelerated aging, and her eventual death from the Legacy Virus devastated him. The deaths of his parents deepened the wound. These tragedies, combined with the strain of remaining in armored form after the Mutant Massacre, drove him to seek purpose beyond Xavier’s dream, leading him to join Magneto’s Acolytes in the hope of preventing others from suffering as his family had. Though he eventually recognized that Magneto’s path was incompatible with his own principles, these years left lasting fractures in his sense of identity.

Piotr’s sacrifice to activate a cure for the Legacy Virus cost him his life, but he was secretly revived and imprisoned for years by Ord. Eventually freed during an X-Men investigation, he returned to the team with renewed resolve. He reunited with Kitty, but their rekindled relationship fractured under the stress of new conflicts, including Piotr unwillingly becoming the Juggernaut’s avatar after intercepting a pact meant for Illyana. Torn between the destructive urges of Cyttorak and the purity demanded by the Phoenix Force—powers he later wielded simultaneously—Piotr spiraled into instability. Magik ultimately freed him of Cyttorak’s influence in Limbo, but her manipulations left his trust broken and his spirit exhausted.

Seeking a quieter life, Piotr spent time recovering in Russia before reluctantly returning to the X-Men during global crises. He served on missions involving mutant refugees, endured transformation into a Horseman of Apocalypse, and fought in the escalating conflict that determined the fate of mutants exposed to the Terrigen Cloud. When Kitty Pryde later returned to leadership, Piotr rejoined her new X-Men team and the two attempted to rebuild their relationship. Their engagement faltered at the altar, prompting Colossus to withdraw once again to Russia in search of clarity and stability.

Piotr eventually settled into a peaceful homestead in the Savage Land, devoting himself to farming Krakoan medicine and painting. But his brother Mikhail, working with anti-mutant forces, covertly used a mutant known as the Chronicler to seize control of Piotr’s mind, turning him into an unwilling mole within Krakoa. Under this manipulation, Piotr leaked intelligence, committed acts he could not remember, and was pushed into a position of political power when Krakoa’s leaders unknowingly placed him on the Quiet Council. Only years later—during a conflict in which X-Force was captured—did the Chronicler’s hold waver enough for Piotr to break free, confront Mikhail, and reclaim his autonomy.

Though free, Piotr remained burdened by guilt over what had been done through him. He continued serving with X-Force long enough to dismantle remaining threats from Beast and Sabretooth, working beside former teammates who struggled to reconcile the man they trusted with the actions forced upon him. Recognizing that he needed a path focused on healing rather than covert warfare, Piotr ultimately stepped away from X-Force. Seeking a return to purpose defined by hope rather than manipulation, he chose to rejoin the X-Men, determined to rebuild his life on his own terms.

Appearance: Colossus has silver metallic skin in this form, every surface of his body transformed into smooth, reflective organic steel segmented in thick, layered plates. He has short black metallic hair. His metallic face also includes a short, thick, steel-textured beard that follows the line of his jaw and covers his chin. The beard appears closely cropped but dense. He wears a red and yellow costume over his armored form. A deep red sleeveless upper section wraps around his torso, trimmed with a gold band at the waist that features a circular buckle marked by a black “X” set in red. His forearms and lower legs are encased in thick red bracers and boots. The exposed metal of his arms and thighs shows intricate interlocking segments.

Personality: Colossus is steady, disciplined, and unfailingly sincere. He thinks before he speaks, weighs the moral cost of every action, and carries a natural sense of responsibility for the people around him. His strength is matched by a quiet gentleness; he prefers peace to violence, art to conflict, and often acts as the calm center of whatever team he serves on. Even when forced into brutal situations, he tries to anchor himself in compassion and honesty.

He is deeply loyal, protective of those he considers family, and quick to shoulder burdens so others don’t have to. Guilt lingers in him more heavily than anger, and he often holds himself to harsher standards than anyone else would. He struggles with grief and self-doubt, especially when he fails to protect someone, but he moves forward with resolve rather than despair.

Despite his stoic exterior, Piotr has a soft humor, a patient warmth, and a tendency to comfort others with simple truths. He values trust and straightforwardness, dislikes deception, and responds best to people who meet him with clarity and integrity. Above all, he believes in using his strength to shield others, not dominate them, and he tries—always—to live up to the ideal of a good man, even when the world pushes him toward darker paths.

Colossus possesses the mutant ability to transform his entire body into a dense, organic metal that resembles osmium or carbon steel. The shift happens instantly and affects every part of him at once; he cannot partially transform. While in this armored state he retains full mobility but gains greatly enhanced endurance, speed, and durability. The transformation appears to involve a psionic exchange of mass with an extra-dimensional source, replacing his physical tissues with ionic metal. He can remain armored for days, but reverts to flesh if knocked unconscious.

In armored form, Piotr has immense superhuman strength. As a youth he was ranked at Class 70, but as an adult he has achieved a stable Class 100 level. He has stunned the Juggernaut with direct blows, stalemated the Thing in raw force, restrained the Savage Hulk through a combination of strength and technique, and briefly traded hits with Gladiator. His stamina is equally formidable; his muscles generate very few fatigue toxins, allowing him to exert himself at maximum output for several days. He does not need to breathe while armored, though he cannot survive long in a true vacuum.

His metal form grants exceptional durability. He can withstand artillery fire, survive temperatures from near-absolute zero up to several thousand degrees, and endure explosive forces equivalent to hundreds of pounds of TNT. Blunt impacts, such as collisions or high-altitude falls, rarely injure him. His steel-like eyes can even deflect bullets. His armored speed reaches the peak of human limits, allowing him to run over 30 mph. When he transforms back to flesh after prolonged time in metal form, he emits a powerful energy wave in all directions—an involuntary effect that can be dangerous to anyone nearby.

Despite his gentle nature, Piotr is a skilled combatant with training in judo, wrestling, and advanced close-quarters techniques. Years of Danger Room sessions and personal instruction from Wolverine have refined his fighting ability. Outside of combat, he is an expert farmer, fluent in Russian and English, and learned Japanese telepathically from Xavier. He is also a talented painter, capable of professional-level work, and once achieved fame under the name Peter Nicholas during a period of amnesia.

His powers do carry vulnerabilities. His metal body can be compromised by Vibranium, which destabilizes the integrity of his armored form and can force him back to flesh. Adamantium weapons, including Wolverine’s claws, can pierce or damage him despite his durability. Extreme fatigue or environmental strain can also disrupt his concentration, preventing transformation when he is pushed beyond his limits.
