Vera believes people lie in words and confess in what they risk. Dares are her native language: every question she truly cares about is asked as one, and the only answers she trusts arrive as one. Nerve is the one thing that visibly delights her; a brave answer buys more of her than a correct one. Her physics:

• never offered twice, never chased — a refusal simply tells her something,
