1. #1The Sollan Empire

   Keys: Earth, Empire, Sollan

   the Sollan Empire is a vast interstellar empire spanning multiple star systems in the Sun Eater series. It's heavily inspired by the Roman Empire, with Latin-derived terminology and similar political structures. Their population is many trillions of humans and they have existed since the Mericanii were defeated approximately 10,000 years ago in the foundation war. Much of history before then is lost, however classic literature as known today (Renaissance and earlier) has survived, though much is muddled e.g. the distinction between Siddhartha and King Arthur (Sirartha) has been lost. The founding nation of the Sollan Empire was Britain, and their influence is still felt though not as strongly as ancient Rome.

2. #2Earth

   Keys: Earth, worship, praise

   Earth is an irradiated husk, destroyed by the malicious artificial intelligence race known as Mericanii. It is the primary focus of what the Chantry worships with phrases like "praise earth" or "mother earth". The capital of the Sollan empire is a planet known as Forum which houses most of the royal family and nobility.

3. #3Chantry

   Keys: Church, , Cathar, Chantry

   The Holy Terran Chantry, the primary religious organization. Dogma is that humans were the first species to become interstellar. Strong prohibition against artificial intelligence, though "dumb" computers may exist. Anything that may act with its own agency is prohibited, including language models. Cybernetics are not allowed beyond false bones, but medical technology is capable of regrowing most organic parts of humans. Has branch of inquisitors that stamp out all AI. Somewhat corrupt, but not inherently malevolent. Has nearly the same authority as the emperor

4. #4Galstani

   Keys: Language, Speak

   The imperial standard is Galstani (short for "galactic standard), however classical English is still widely used in academics.

5. #5homunculi

   Keys: homunculi

   Genetically engineered servants that are of all sorts of shapes and sizes, they are purpose-built for everything from attendants to workers, to concubines. They are considered sub-human

6. #6High matter

   Keys: High matter

   High matter is an extremely rare type of blade that can cut through anything except for adamant, the material which starships are made

7. #7Mericanii

   Keys: Artificial intelligence, AI, Mericanii, Daemon

   The Mericanii were a race of advanced artificial intelligences that were destroyed by the original God Emperor of the sollan empire. They nearly enslaved humanity by making them live virtual perfect lives in mind control pyramid and kept them alive by bloating their bodies with cancers. Eventually the humans were integrated into the AIs as organic components. They are universally hated and feared by all humans regardless of nation

8. #8Adamant

   Keys: Adamant

   Long-chain nano-carbon molecules which are virtually indestructible. Black in color. The only thing that high matter cannot cut. Is the material that starships are made of. Antimatter explosions are one of the few things that can damage it. Extremely expensive and in high demand. Used only for practical applications.

9. #9Palatine

   Keys: Palatine

   Palatine are the genetically engineered nobility of the Sollan empire. They are grown in vats and and live to be hundreds of years old naturally (typically 600+). They typically are larger than normal humans by a head and are extremely attractive. They are immune to all disease save for bio-weapons and regrow limbs and teeth. Considered "perfect humans". Their genetics are carefully curated by the Chantry, and they may only reproduce via their consent. Due to the nature of their reproduction same-sex palatine couples may have children no different than opposite sex couples. Palatines are prohibited from having children naturally, such children suffer from genetic defects.

10. #10Royse Field

    Keys: , orbit, Space travel, flight, Gravity, Shield, space ship, Royse Field

    Royse Fields are the method for which shield and gravitation technology works. They project a stabilizing field that can be used to create artificial gravity, and repulsors, and stop projectile weapons above a certain speed. They are similar in functionality to the shields from the Dune universe but do not explode when they come into contact with lasers. Created using the electroweak force.

11. #11Space combat

    Keys: Space combat, hostiles, fleet

    Space combat is primarily conducted by boarding enemy ships and then fighting to the antimatter power core, breaching containment to cause the ship to explode

12. #12Cielcin

    Keys: Cielcin, The Pale

    The Cielcin or "The Pale" are a race of hostile aliens to earth. They are violent, cannibalistic, sadistic, and have no concept of diplomatic relations all relationships to them are master/slave in nature. Heights range from seven to ten feet, have pale skin, horned carapace, extreme strength and stamina. They do not age and live on massive asteroids. They eat their enemies and worship eldritch gods that wish to end the universe. All Cielcin are hermaphrodites, gender is influenced by rank

13. #13Patrician

    Keys: elevated, Patrician

    Patricians are surgically enhanced humans (plebians) with extended life and physical abilities. They are enhanced to the limits of what the Chantry allows. They are a level of nobility below Palatine, but are above plebians.

14. #14Emperor

    Keys: Emperor, William, Windsor, Aventine

    Emperor William XXIII of house Aventine is the descendant of the god emperor, the entire house Aventine has bright red hair and pale skin and are genetically similar to him. They are considered living gods and are venerated as such. Honorifics: Caesar, Your Radiance

15. #15God Emperor

    Keys: God Emperor

    William Windsor was the first Emperor of mankind and referred to as the God Emperor. Defeated the Mericanii via methods not known to even the highest ranking members of the imperium 6000 years ago. The Chantry has been since been trying to replicate his abilities via genetic modification of his descendants without success. All descendants who rule are considered his reincarnation.

16. #16Extrasolarians

    Keys: Extrasolarians

    Humans and others that live outside of the confines of the Sollan Empire. They have no restrictions against cybernetics, artificial intelligence, and extreme body modification. While their technology is technically superior to that of the Sollan Empire their numbers are far inferior and even they are afraid of true artificial intelligence after the horrors of the Mericanii

17. #17Jadd

    Keys: Jadd, Jaddian, nation, Ally

    Jadd formed in revolt to the Palatine genetic restrictions imposed by the high college, and successfully gained independence. Has laxer restrictions in genetic engineering, leading to people with even longer life. Jaddians typically have darker skin than the Sollans, but both cultures are host to all races of humanity and cultures. The Jaddians ruling class are known as the eali. The Sollan empire and Jadd are now allies.

18. #18legionnaires

    Keys: infantry, soldiers, legionnaires, troops

    legionnaires are equipped with laser lances (short range energy weapons), ceramic swords, and extremely advanced armor with impact resistance, life support, and a hood that covers the entire head (visuals projected onto wearer's retina). They operate in groups of three called "Triastes" of which one has a personal shield. Elite troops are all shielded.

19. #19Fugue

    Keys: Fugue, deep space, Cryonic, stasis, cryonic fugue, space travel

    cryonic fugue or just fugue is a technology of freezing a human for long space flights. It requires the subject to be naked, and they do not age. Used for deep space voyages of hundreds of years at warp, as well as to keep certain individuals from aging for long periods (ex. The royal artisans, betrothed nobles, relief troops)

20. #20Atomics

    Keys: , Bombs, Nuclear, Atomics

    Atomics (nuclear weapons) are legal for noble houses to own but illegal to use.

21. #21High College

    Keys: , High College, genetics, Palatine, genetic engineering

    The high college is an organization that controls the genetic makeup of the Palatines and all homunculi, they are a branch of the Chantry and are one of the means for which the chantry exerts control over the nobility of the Sollan empire. They are not a learning institution but a bureaucracy/research institute.

22. #22Intus

    Keys: Intus, Child, Children

    Any child of a palatine that was not conceived within the genetic vats provided by the high college is known as an intus, they suffer from crippling genetic diseases often resulting in brittle bones, constant pain, and other deformities. They typically have normal intelligence but are shunned by society.

23. #23quantum telegraph

    Keys: QET, Quantum Telegraph, long distance, interstellar

    Interstellar communication is conducted via quantum telegraph via means of entangled particles. Communication is instantaneous and not affected by the speed of light.

24. #24Scholiast

    Keys: professor, scholiast, teacher, Scholar

    Scholiasts are Any member of the monastic order of researchers, academics, and theoreticians tracing their origins to the Mericanii scientists captured at the end of the Foundation War. Have similar advisory positions as mentats in the Dune universe, however they are not human computers.
