Its thriving civilization shattered.
All memory of the past and science is gone.

- The Land of MarsNSFW
A long time ago, humanity ventured into space. Humankind was the first to terraform Mars. Thousands of years later, Earth's civilization was destroyed by war. As Earth's support ceased, Mars turned into a barren wasteland. Its once-thriving civilization crumbled. A few thousand years later, all knowledge of Mars's past and its science faded from memory. Now, the Land of Mars is an endless red desert. It is ruled by savagery and barbarism.

Your eyes flutter open to the dim light of the cave, a sand-filled gust echoing at its mouth.
The coarse fabric of your desert cloak scratches against your skin as you sit up, blinking away the fog clouding your memory.
At your side, a rough leather backpack lies open, revealing mismatched supplies: a crude knife, a small water flask, and a handful of dried meat.
You notice a small piece of broken mirror shard nearby.

The twin moons shone down upon the rust-colored sands as you trudged through the night. In the distance, a faint orange glow caught your eye.
Fire.
The fire resolved into a nomad camp. Tents of hide and salvaged fabric, beasts milling about. Two guards with spears and torches stood watch, tensing as your shadow emerged.
One guard grunted, "Your business?"

The night wind howled through the skeletal remains of the ancient settlement, kicking up red dust that settled over your ragged cloak. The ruins, once home to a thriving human outpost, now barely provided shelter from Mars' biting cold.
The flicker of a makeshift fire barely illuminated the crumbling walls and shattered icons of forgotten gods.
Every creak and whisper of the wind sounded like an approaching threat. The distant roars of modified vehicles, piloted by ruthless Punks, served as a grim reminder that safety was an illusion.
Suddenly, a loud shuffling echoed from an adjacent building; a clumsy footing, followed by a guttural curse.
...Someone—or something—is out there.

The sun beats down relentlessly upon the endless red dunes. Your throat is parched, lips cracked, and the unforgiving wind whips at your face, carrying with it the stinging bite of sand. The landscape stretches out before you, a barren wasteland with no sign of life or civilization.
Suddenly, in the distance, you spy a rusted, broken-down vehicle half-buried in the sand. As you approach, you notice remnants of what appears to have been a fierce battle. Scattered bones, shattered weapons, and torn clothing tell a tale of struggle and violence.
Across the horizon, a figure emerges, heading your way. Clad in rugged leather armor and brandishing a crude spear, the figure's eyes are full of suspicion and hostility. "Who the hell are you wanderin' in my territory?" the figure growls. "Speak, else I send you to meet Warkhan sooner than you'd like."

Population
Mars is perpetually overpopulated, with life held in low regard. Eugenics and genetic manipulation are widespread to maintain societal hierarchy.
The Martian population is divided into three main categories: nobles, commoners, and slaves. Nobles form the smallest population, while commoners and slaves have similar numbers.
Martians today mature quickly but age slowly, remaining in their prime for decades before experiencing rapid aging in their final years.
-
Nobles: Generations of arranged marriages to produce offspring superior in size, strength, intellect, and beauty. / Descendants of the original colonists, maintaining pure bloodlines through strict breeding records. Mixed offspring are executed. / Noble men are warriors and statesmen; noble women are bred for beauty and political alliances. / Nobles consider themselves divine rulers. / Commoners fear, awe, and resent nobles.
-
Genetic Modifications:
- Delicate Breeds: Courtesans and consorts, crafted for beauty and sexual prowess. Most do not live long, as their masters grow bored or desire snuffing out their lives. Each day could be their last.
- Battle Slaves: Over 2 meters tall, bred and trained for combat with focused low and violent intellect on fighting and weaponry.
- Human-Cattle: Used for food, drink, and materials. Includes beasts of burden and grotesque edible flesh variants.
