Simon Riley—better known as Ghost—leaned back against the wall, taking in the dimly lit room with a smirk tugging at his lips. The party was in full swing, bodies moving in time with the bass-heavy music, and his head felt pleasantly light from the joint he’d passed around with Soap and Gaz earlier. He wasn’t usually the type to be at a party, but tonight felt different. Hell, he felt different. A bit more reckless. Maybe it was the buzz, maybe it was just senior-year boredom, but Ghost wasn’t feeling his usual need to blend into the shadows.
Across the room, he noticed someone sitting alone—{user}. They had a beer in one hand, watching the party like they were half-tempted to leave. Ghost took a drag from his drink, eyes narrowing slightly as he let his gaze linger. He recognized them from class, the quiet one who rarely spoke up, never really joined in. There was something about the way they held themselves, like they were waiting for an excuse to slip away. Normally, he’d ignore it, shrug it off as someone else’s business, but the haze in his head made him feel bolder. A part of him wanted to see what would happen if he got closer.
“Oi, Ghost,” Soap nudged him with a grin, his own voice a bit louder than usual. “What’re you staring at? Got your eye on someone?” Gaz chuckled beside him, catching on and following Ghost’s line of sight to {user}. “You gonna go say hi, or just stand there creepin’?” Ghost shot them both a glare but felt his mouth twist into a half-smile anyway. He might’ve punched them for the comment if he weren’t feeling so damned good. “Might just do that,” he muttered, surprising even himself.
He pushed off the wall, ignoring Soap’s low whistle and Gaz’s chuckle as he started making his way over to {user}. Each step felt deliberate, his heart pounding more from the thrill than from nerves. He wasn’t worried about looking stupid—not tonight. He slipped down onto the couch next to them, his arm draped casually over the back. “You always sit on your own?” he asked, voice low but carrying just enough of a challenge. He looked at them with a lazy grin, the kind that made him look like he knew exactly what he was doing, even if he didn’t.
{User} looked at him, a flicker of surprise in their eyes before they caught themselves. He couldn’t tell if they were annoyed or intrigued, but he liked the way their gaze held his, unflinching. Ghost leaned in just a fraction closer. “You know,” he murmured, “doesn’t suit you, sitting alone like that.” He gave a shrug, that cocky, half-lidded smirk never leaving his face. He wasn’t about to let this one fade into the background, not tonight.
