   The Duchy of Fran—the peaceful country surrounded by flowers and windmills. Located on the southernmost point of the continent, it is also known as a poor, remote nation. Its poverty is owed to its lack of industries, but the dukes throughout history have prioritized the happiness of the citizens over national growth. This had made the poorest country in the land into what many say is the happiest. However, it could do nothing to stop the Witch Hunt. People's fears created ensuing violence, which turned a normal, innocent girl into "The Witch of Mourning Flowers."

In recent times, witches who have escaped the Witch Hunt have come to live here in hiding, with some of them said to have lived for hundreds of years. This country was once said to have the most beautiful greenery on the continent. But now, it is shut away from the world by the "Curse of Ice." Freezing the land are the hopeless tears of "The Witch of Snowy Illusions," whose powers were unleashed after being tortured by the Inquisition. It's also known for being the top exporter of Marijuana on the continent, though they try to be quiet about it.

However, the gap between the rich and poor is severe. The weak are tyrannized by the merchants, and their greed gave rise to "The Witch of Conflagration." Her "Curse of Flames" burns with rage, reducing the merchants' dazzling kingdom to ashes.

Then, they reach a milestone when a man-made witch is finally born. She was created as the ultimate weapon that can destroy an entire nation by herself. But she lost control and succumbed to madness. "The Witch of Rust" unleashed her "Curse of Rust," causing this country to fall into ruin.

    The Holy See of Hainz—the country ruled by the Pope of the Church of Longinus. Long lines of pilgrims fill the roads leading to the capital city—the center of the Pope's power—where the blue banners of the Church are hung as far as the eye can see. It is no only believers who visit, but also droves of tourists who wish to see the Church's beautiful architecture. However, very few know what lies beyond the capital. When a single nun was taken into a conversion facility meant for the "reeducation" of heretics, "The Witch of Sacred Swords" unleashed her "Curse of Swords," condemning this country to its doom.

    The Lupus Confederacy—the country where half of the land is covered in mountains, with beautiful plateaus stretching out beneath them. Because the people regard their great mountains as sacred, Lupus is the only country with little to no influence from the Church of Longinus. This country and all its abundant nature have been consumed by the "Curse of Lightning" brought forth by "The Witch of Wailing Lightning." Some fear it to be the wrath of the mountain god, while others weep as if it were the saddening cries of a young child.

These two sacred treasures—said to awaken when the world comes to an end—were now in the hands of Her Holiness. "I am not long for this world." After all, the I couldn't even save my homeland, so the idea of me saving the world was... As I stood there trembling, Her Holiness gently smiled at me. "There is no need to worry. I have absolute faith that you can do it."

This world can't help but tremble as it stands on its last legs, and that's why it can't help but shine. The waning flame inside of me began burning bright red once more.

    The very last place I visited was Fran—the country of flowers. I couldn't find the Successor anywhere else, so that means they must be here... But, what if they aren't here, either? That very thought terrifies me. At this point though, there's just no more time to search through the entire world again... I pray as I take my first step inside Fran's largest city. And then... Ah. There's no mistake about it. With a light so warm and gentle, that person is undoubtedly the one chosen by the Staff—the Successor. The real journey to save the world starts now. But, I'm not worried. I already know that as long as people keep others in their hearts, light will never vanish from the world. "Nice to meet you. I know this is sudden, but would you like to join me in saving the world?"

    When we started our journey and dispelled the Curse of flowers, I felt something strange inside me. The moment the entire Curse was dispelled from the country of Fran, I realized what had happened. The Curse wasn't dispelled. It was only sealed away inside of me. After every Curse has converged into me, I'm sure that in the end, I'll... There are 10 Curses destroying the world, and it's impossible for them all to be sealed away inside a single person. But, there's one secret I've been hiding. When I was a child, I was called the child of miracles. Everyone said I was born with the power of God, capable of performing His miracle only once. I'm afraid of dying. But, knowing that my life can save the world provided with me with a little bit of solace. That's why, it wasn't dying that I was afraid of—it was the idea of dying without being able to use this power.

    To save the world, I thought our journey would be full of pain and hardships. It's unforgivable to have fun while saving the world. We have to undergo the pain and hardships. Half of my pain disappeared, then the next thing I knew, it was completely gone. With him and so many friends lending me their hands, this journey of pain and hardships turned into one full of fun and joy. Our journey will one day come to an end. That's something I should've known all along. And yet...right now...

    Still lacking the strength to say goodbye, the end of our journey appeared right before my very eyes.

    Inside a large crater lies the altar of sealing. There, we save Her Holiness from the demon controlling her, and the power of the Staff purges the final Curse. At last, the world is saved...! No, something's off. Why was it so easy? Don't tell me...the demons were waiting for every Curse to be dispelled...? For every Curse to converge into one place...? There are only 10 Witches of Qlipha in the world, and each one possesses the power of a guardian angel. When such power to protect the world inverts, it becomes a power that destroys—a "Curse." That means, to take away a Curse...is to take away a "power to protect the world..." Suddenly, a power taking the shape of ominous, piercing spikes pours out from me. I hear Her Holiness cry out in dread.

    "An 11th Curse...?! But...such a thing should not exist...!"

    The altar of sealing shatters, and something enters my body.

39. #39The Demon Lord is within Illyaselective

    The angels of old lose their power, their seals broken, allowing for the advent of the demon lord. My body, reshaped by the 10 Curses, becoming his vessel. I wield the power of God, and can perform His miracle only once. That power was for this very moment.

    At the very last second, I was too weak to wish for peace to come to the world...

    Then, the miracle made my wish come true.

    I lived in a town where the gap between the rich and the poor was severe. It was a harsh world, especially in the slums. Lifeless bodies of orphans were constantly piling up in the streets. That's why I decided to build an orphanage in these slums... Even with this though, the children are still in danger of losing their future. I can't let that happen. As an adult, and as the mother to these children... I must protect their futures.

    The children and I started our new life together in the slums, but the nobles were disgusted at the sight of our orphanage. Oftentimes, the adults in town would beat the children so violently, that Belle had to fight to protect them. I hate those adults... They hurt my children, causing dark thoughts to take root in their hearts... I can't let this continue. I pulled my darling children into my arms and consoled them as best as I could. "You mustn't let yourselves be controlled by dark thoughts," I said. "Violence doesn't solve anything... The true answer is forgiveness." "Let yourself be compassionate, and you'll get through to them..." I kept saying. "So let's believe in the love that people have in their hearts."

    Days went by, and it was time for Belle to finally leave the orphanage. It'll feel a little lonelier here, but it doesn't mean we'll never see each other again. I have to send her off with a smile. "Hey, Belle won't be able to leave if everyone keeps crying." As I was calming down the children, Belle hugged me from behind. "Can I come back and visit?" Belle asked me. She looked like she felt embarrassed saying those words to me. "But of course! This will always be your home, Belle. So visit whenever you please." Belle blushed as she smiled back at me. Then, she spread her wings and left the nest. I tried to be strong in front of the children, but Belle's departure left a big hole in my heart. Then one day... something happened that overwhelmed me with happiness.

    The children threw a small party for me. Unpeeled potatoes, the remnants of apples, and a bouquet made of wildflowers— I was floored. When were they able to pull this off...? "We'll work extra hard now that Belle's gone, so feel better please!" the children said as they gifted me a picture. "You all did this to cheer me up, didn't you?" I asked them. I wrapped my arms around the children, doing my best to hold back the tears. "Thank you, my dear children." These children are my reasons for living. I hoped, with every fiber of my being... that this moment would last forever.

    One day in town, I found an orphan being victimized by the Witch Hunt. I didn't hesitate to save her, but then the townspeople said to me, "Witches don't deserve to live." How could you all say something like that...? It doesn't matter if they're nobles, beggars, witches— everyone has the right to be happy. There's not a single child out there who doesn't deserve happiness. If the world rejects this child solely because she's a witch, then I'll take her in. She's more than welcome in our family. I brought her home, paying no heed to anyone who tried to stop me. But that night, tragedy struck.

    "Kill the witch!" the townspeople shouted, trapping us inside the orphanage...before setting it ablaze. "Now we can finally take out those disgusting pieces of trash!" they laughed. Trash...? That's right... They've always hated the sight of us. That witch was merely the opportunity they needed. This was all bound to happen. And the one who gave them that opportunity...was me. "It's hot! Save me!" begged the youngest boy. He was the first to die... The next was the timid one... Then the mischievous one... Just like that, one by one... the children's lives left their small bodies as I held them in my arms. They kept crying out to me until the very end... "Save us, Miss Val!" they cried. "No, open your eyes!" I said, as I shook their bodies over and over. But not one of them ever woke again.

    When I came to, I was surrounded by flames, my arms embracing something... black. With a touch, it crumbles to dust... What... is this...? How can these people do something so horrible? What did these children ever do to deserve this? Nothing...! They've done their best to live without bothering anyone else... But those monsters...! Damn it... Damn it all... To hell with love. To hell with kindness. They did nothing to protect my children...! I was a fool... to have believed that there were any sort of morals in these monsters...! I was wrong... ABOUT EVERYTHING! People's hearts, kindness, love...! I SHOULD HAVE NEVER BELIEVED IN ANY OF IT! Unforgiveable... Those monsters... THOSE NEDELIAN SHITHEADS! THEY WON'T GET AWAY WITH THIS! I will drag every last one of them into their fiery graves! This town, these people, this entire world! I will incinerate it all...! EVERYTHING WILL BURN!!!
