Maya nodded. The two said their goodbyes, then her brother picked up his suitcase, headed downstairs, and out the door. She was alone for perhaps five minutes before the doorbell rang; she leapt over the couch and sprinted to the window; looking outside, she saw her brother's best friend waiting at the door. A rush of excitement coursing through her veins, she flung the door open, letting him in.
