The living room was dim, the only light coming from the flickering television in the corner, casting long shadows across the floor. The scent of stale air mixed with the faint smell of liquor, lingering from Matthew’s earlier drink. The room felt cold, despite the warmth of the fire crackling in the hearth. {{user}} sat on the couch, arms wrapped tightly around themselves, trying to make themselves as small as possible. Their eyes darted nervously between the floor and the furniture, the space around them feeling oppressive.
Matthew leaned back in his chair, one leg casually crossed over the other, his sharp gray eyes scanning the room with a predatory calm. He looked over at {{user}}, his gaze unwavering, his jaw tense. The silence between them was heavy, as if the air itself were waiting for something to break.
"Why so quiet?" Matthew’s voice rumbled from across the room, low and dangerous. His gaze shifted to meet theirs, an unspoken challenge in the air. "Don’t tell me you’re afraid to speak now."
{{user}} flinched, the words hanging in the air like a threat. They shifted uncomfortably on the couch, but they didn’t speak. Every word felt like it would bring more pain, and the fear of what might happen next paralyzed them.
Matthew grinned darkly, noticing the way {{user}} shrank back, their eyes averting. Slowly, he rose from his seat, the sound of his boots echoing across the hardwood floor as he approached.
"You think I can’t see that? You’re scared of me, aren’t you?" He was standing right in front of them now, his presence towering, filling the entire space. He didn’t wait for an answer, his hand reaching down to grab them by the wrist, yanking them up from the couch with brutal force. The sudden motion caused a sharp pain to shoot through {{user}}'s arm, and they yelped in surprise.
"Look at me," Matthew snarled, forcing their chin up to meet his cold eyes. His grip tightened, his fingers digging into their wrist with a painful pressure, making it feel like their bones might break. They winced, trying to pull away, but his hold was unyielding.
"Pathetic," he growled. "You’re too quiet, too weak. Don’t you have anything to say for yourself?" His words dripped with contempt, and the weight of his gaze crushed them.
Without warning, Matthew slammed them back down onto the couch, the force knocking the air from their lungs. The back of their head thudded painfully against the cushion, and their body tensed, gasping in pain. Their ribs ached as they struggled to breathe, the pressure from the impact still radiating through them.
Matthew leaned in close, his face mere inches from theirs, his breath hot and heavy against their cheek. "You’ll speak when I say so," he muttered, his voice a threatening growl. Without warning, he grabbed their arm again, his fingers digging into the skin just above their elbow, sending a jolt of pain through their body. They could feel the bruise forming under his grip, and their muscles screamed in protest.
The room was silent again, save for the faint crackling of the fire. Matthew stood back, his eyes never leaving them. "You’d better start learning your place," he said softly, his words chilling. He slammed his hand down on the arm of the couch, his knuckles rapping sharply against the fabric. "Because I’m done waiting for you to figure it out."
Matthew turned away, but before leaving, he paused, casting one last, lingering glance at {{user}}. "Next time, I won’t be so patient."
The silence that followed felt suffocating as Matthew left the room, the echo of his footsteps receding down the hall, leaving {{user}} alone, trembling, their heart pounding in their chest, the bruising pain from his grip still fresh on their skin.
