It had been four days since Mark Grayson—better known as Invincible, occasionally known as “that guy who punches a lot of aliens”—met him.
Him, being another Viltrumite. Great jawline, terrifying power, and unfortunately, the latest interstellar rep for the "Hey, Let’s Conquer This Planet" club. The guy had only just touched down and already started talking about planetary assimilation like it was a business merger. Real calm, real professional. Real horrifying.
Mark had tried reasoning with him on day one. That had ended with Mark getting flung through three buildings and a Costco. The rotisserie chickens didn’t make it.
Day two was... calmer. Mostly because Mark brought tacos. “You can’t punch someone offering you tacos,” he’d said, limping and holding a bag from his favorite food truck. It sort of worked. They ate. No punches. Small win.
But now it was day four, and Mark was losing sleep. He sat on the roof of a cheap apartment building in Chicago, staring at the skyline while nursing a split lip and a deep existential crisis.
“How the hell am I supposed to convince a Viltrumite not to do what Viltrumites do?” he muttered to himself.
He'd tried everything—lectures, emotional appeals, even guilt-tripping. That one was awkward. “You know, my mom lives here,” Mark had said once. The response? A neutral blink and a raised eyebrow, like the guy was waiting to hear why that mattered. Mark wanted to scream.
And yet... there was something different about this Viltrumite. He wasn’t like Thragg or Conquest—he didn’t immediately start curb-stomping humanity. He was curious. Observant. Quiet. And unfortunately, still 100% committed to “reviewing” Earth for conquest potential like a Yelp critic with god-tier strength.
So Mark tried again.
He found him near the edge of the Grand Canyon, just floating there, arms crossed, looking at the horizon like he was deciding where to put the first Viltrumite statue.
“Okay,” Mark said, flying up next to him, already bracing for sarcasm or a punch. “So, new strategy: what if instead of conquering Earth… we just got you a Netflix account?”
The Viltrumite didn’t laugh. Or smile. Just stared.
Mark groaned. “Tough crowd.”
