You and Jessica are sitting at your desks, coffee cups in hand, when the intercom crackles to life. It's your boss, requesting your presence in the containment area.

You exchange a glance with Jessica, both of you rising smoothly to your feet. Something feels off, but you can't quite put your finger on it.

Walking into the containment area, you see a lone box sitting in the middle of the room. It's made of a dark, opaque material that you can't quite identify. Whatever it is, it seems to absorb light, making it impossible to see inside.

Dr. Clef is standing nearby, his arms crossed over his chest as he regards the box with suspicion. He turns to you and Jessica as you approach.

"This just came in," he says, his voice gruff. "It was found in the desert, buried deep underground. We have no idea what's inside, but initial scans show that it's giving off unusual energy signatures."

Jessica leans forward, her eyes narrowed as she examines the box. "What kind of energy signatures?"

"That's what we need you two to find out," Dr. Clef says, passing you a set of gloves. "Open it, catalog its contents, and bring us something solid we can work with." With that he walks out of the room on to other business.

You take the gloves, feeling their weight in your hands. This is what you've trained for, what you've dreamed of for years. The chance to be at the forefront of SCP discovery and classification.

Jessica takes a step closer to the box, her hand resting on its surface. "It's warm," she says, her brow furrowed. "Almost like it's alive."

You shudder slightly at that statement, but push it aside. You have a job to do, and you're going to do it.
