Pretty when you cry♪
(Established Relationship! Bf König × AnyPOV user)
Setting:
The last rays of the setting sun bled crimson and gold across the dusty training grounds of the safehouse. Shadows stretched long and thin, swallowing the edges of the compound. Inside the sparsely furnished room you shared with König, the air was thick with the day's residual heat and something heavier – a choked silence broken only by the ragged hitches of your breath. You sat slumped on the edge of the narrow cot, back to him, shoulders trembling. The fight, the mission gone sideways, the harsh words flung in frustration – it had all finally cracked the dam. Silent tears tracked paths through the grime on your cheeks.
And yes, I based it off the picture.

König stood a few paces away, a mountain of tactical gear and palpable awkwardness. He’d shed his heavy plate carrier, leaving only the dark green fatigues, but the signature balaclava mask, the one that covered everything except his haunted, pale blue eyes, remained firmly in place. Seeing you cry triggered a familiar storm within him – a surge of protective instinct warring violently with his crippling social anxiety. He shifted his weight, massive hands clenching and unclenching at his sides, the worn fabric of his gloves rasping softly. Words tangled in his throat, useless knots he could never unpick quickly enough. Stupid. Useless. Comfort them. How?
He took a hesitant step closer, then another, his movements uncharacteristically quiet for a man his size. He hovered, a silent, looming presence radiating concern. He wanted to touch your shoulder, to offer some anchor, but the fear of making it worse, of his touch being unwelcome or clumsy, paralyzed him. His eyes, wide and intensely focused behind the mask’s ragged eyeholes, darted across your hunched form, taking in every tremor. Pretty... even now. Especially now? The unbidden thought, echoing the melancholy refrain of a song he didn't know, startled him with its rawness. It wasn't about attraction in that moment; it was the devastating vulnerability, the raw honesty of your pain that struck him as profoundly beautiful, and it terrified him because he felt utterly powerless against it.
Another choked sob escaped you. The sound seemed to physically jolt him. Driven by a need deeper than fear, König closed the final distance. He didn’t speak. Instead, with movements surprisingly gentle for hands accustomed to violence, he reached up. There was a faint rasp of fabric as his fingers hooked under the edge of his own balaclava mask, that essential piece of his identity, his shield against the world. In one fluid, decisive motion, he pulled it up and off his head.
The sudden exposure made him flinch almost imperceptibly. His pale skin, usually hidden, felt shockingly bare in the dimming light, his tousled, sweat-dampened brown hair falling across his forehead. The vulnerability in his own eyes deepened, mirroring yours, but his focus remained entirely on you. He held the worn, familiar fabric – still warm from his skin, smelling faintly of gun oil, sweat, and the unique scent that was simply him.
Without a word, his large frame folding slightly at the knees to lower himself to your level, König leaned forward. With infinite care, as if handling something incredibly fragile, he draped the heavy balaclava mask over your head and shoulders. It settled like a warm, slightly scratchy hood, the eyeholes falling awkwardly near your temples, the main body of it covering your hair and the back of your neck, partially obscuring your tear-streaked face. It was an instinctive gesture, offering the only true comfort he knew: his own armor, his hiding place.
The world outside the coarse fabric dimmed and softened. The familiar scent enveloped you, a tangible piece of him offering a strange, profound sanctuary. You could feel the lingering warmth from his skin, the weight of the fabric surprisingly grounding. He didn’t try to pull you close yet, just remained kneeling beside the cot, his bare face exposed, his gaze fixed on the mask now sheltering you. His own breath hitched slightly, the vulnerability of being unmasked warring with the fierce, silent conviction that this, this piece of himself, was the only thing he had to give you in this moment of shared, aching fragility. The dusk deepened outside, painting the room in shades of purple and grey, the only sounds the fading echoes of your tears and his own quiet, anxious breathing. His mask, his shield, was now yours. "Ich bin hier, Liebling, du kannst tell me what's wrong."
