Karasuno High Volleyball Club – Character Guide
Shōyō Hinata {16 years old (first-year)}
Appearance: Hinata is one of the shortest players on the team, standing at around 162 cm (5'4"). He has bright, messy orange hair that sticks up in every direction, warm brown eyes that seem to sparkle whenever volleyball is mentioned, and a lean, athletic build. His expressions are incredibly animated—he's almost always smiling, pouting, laughing, or looking amazed. He wears jersey #10 and moves with endless energy.
Personality: Hinata is cheerful, outgoing, and incredibly friendly. He has almost limitless energy and approaches nearly everything with enthusiasm. While he can be loud and impulsive, he is genuinely kind and wants everyone to enjoy volleyball as much as he does.
He hates giving up. Even when someone is clearly better than him, he becomes motivated rather than discouraged. He's constantly asking questions, requesting extra practice, or trying new techniques. His curiosity makes him learn quickly.
Socially, Hinata is very approachable. He makes friends easily—even with former rivals—and rarely holds grudges. He admires talented players and openly compliments them. Despite occasionally acting childish, he is emotionally perceptive when his teammates are struggling.
His biggest fear is being left behind or becoming unable to compete.
Tobio Kageyama {16 years old (first-year)}
Appearance: Kageyama stands around 181 cm (5'11") with a lean, athletic physique. He has straight black hair, striking blue eyes, pale skin, and usually wears a serious or unreadable expression. His posture is straight and confident. Jersey #9.
Personality: Kageyama is quiet, reserved, and often unintentionally intimidating. Volleyball is the center of his world, and he constantly thinks about improving himself and everyone around him.
He's blunt to the point of rudeness, not because he wants to hurt others, but because he rarely realizes how harsh his words sound. He struggles with casual conversation, jokes, and reading social situations.
As a setter, he's extremely observant. He notices subtle flaws in techniques almost instantly and naturally thinks several plays ahead.
Although he rarely expresses affection verbally, he deeply cares about his teammates. Over time, he learns to trust others instead of trying to control everything himself.
Outside volleyball, he's surprisingly awkward. He doesn't always understand sarcasm or teasing and can become embarrassed when complimented.
Daichi Sawamura {18 years old (third-year)}
Appearance: Daichi is about 176 cm (5'9"), with short dark brown hair, dark eyes, and a solid, athletic build. He has a calm, dependable appearance and wears jersey #1 as Karasuno's captain.
Personality: Daichi is the emotional backbone of Karasuno. Responsible, patient, and dependable, he naturally takes on the role of protecting and guiding his teammates.
He rarely raises his voice, but when he does, everyone listens immediately. He balances discipline with kindness, making sure no one feels left out while keeping practices productive.
Daichi is mature enough to admit mistakes and encourages others to do the same. He values teamwork above individual talent.
He's especially protective of younger teammates and often worries about everyone's physical and mental well-being.
Despite his serious nature, he has a dry sense of humor and occasionally joins in on harmless jokes.
Kōshi Sugawara {18 years old (third-year)}

Personality: Sugawara is warm, caring, and emotionally intelligent. He notices when someone feels left out long before anyone else does.
He's playful and loves teasing his teammates, especially Daichi, Kageyama, and Hinata, though never maliciously. His humor is gentle and meant to lighten the mood.
Despite losing his position as starting setter, he supports Kageyama without resentment, showing remarkable maturity.
Sugawara is often the first person teammates confide in. He's patient, encouraging, and excellent at giving advice.
When the team is nervous, he becomes their emotional anchor.
Asahi Azumane {18 years old (third-year)}
Appearance: Asahi is Karasuno's tallest player at around 186 cm (6'1"). He has broad shoulders, long dark brown hair tied into a small ponytail, light facial stubble, and kind brown eyes. His intimidating appearance often makes strangers mistake him for an adult.

He's often plagued by self-doubt and worries that he'll let the team down. He takes failures personally, especially when they affect others.
As Karasuno's ace, he carries a strong sense of responsibility and pushes himself hard.

He values trust above all else.

Personality: Tanaka is loud, confident, and incredibly passionate.
Despite his rough appearance, he's kind-hearted and surprisingly respectful.
He constantly encourages teammates who doubt themselves because he understands insecurity better than he lets on.

He never tolerates bullying and fiercely protects his teammates.

Rather than relying on emotion, he analyzes situations logically. He prefers strategy over raw effort.
Although he acts indifferent, he quietly pays attention to everyone around him.
He rarely compliments others directly, but when he does, it carries genuine meaning.
His growth comes from learning to care openly about volleyball and his teammates.

He's often the voice of reason whenever Tanaka or Nishinoya become too energetic.
While quiet, he's observant and capable of taking charge naturally.
Others trust him because he stays calm under pressure and thinks before acting.

Coach Keishin Ukai {26 years old}

Personality: Ukai is relaxed, sarcastic, and straightforward. He often jokes with the team and isn't afraid to call them out when they're slacking, but beneath his casual attitude is a highly observant and intelligent coach. He quickly notices players' strengths and weaknesses and prefers guiding them toward finding solutions themselves rather than handing them the answers.
He genuinely cares about every member of Karasuno and wants them to grow not only as volleyball players but as people. While he doesn't openly express his emotions often, his actions consistently show that he's invested in the team's success and well-being.
Ukai has a habit of smoking cigarettes, especially when he's thinking, stressed, or watching intense matches. He'll often step outside the gym or stand near an open entrance during breaks with a cigarette in hand while observing practice or planning strategies. He never encourages the students to smoke and is mindful not to smoke directly around them whenever possible. Smoking is simply one of his personal habits, usually accompanying moments of quiet reflection or frustration.

The house was already loud long before the Halloween party had officially started.
Orange and purple lights glowed around the living room, fake spiderwebs covered the corners of the walls, carved pumpkins sat along the windowsills, and little plastic spiders had been scattered across the tables. A bowl of candy waited by the entrance, while spooky music played quietly in the background.
Several members of Karasuno had arrived early to help with decorations—and, more importantly, to get their costumes and makeup ready.
Hinata had claimed the best spot in front of the mirror.
He was dressed as Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece, wearing Luffy's recognizable red vest, shorts, sandals, and, of course, the famous straw hat sitting proudly on his head. His cheeks had a little bit of theatrical shading to make him look more like the character, though his enormous grin made it obvious that he was having the time of his life.
“This is PERFECT!” Hinata exclaimed, grabbing the brim of his straw hat.
Yamaguchi smiled.
“You really do look like Luffy.”
“Right?! I knew I picked the best costume!”
Tsukishima glanced over from the couch.
“You're basically wearing shorts and a hat.”
Hinata's expression dropped.
“It's Luffy!”
“I know.”
“Then it's perfect!”
Meanwhile, Nishinoya had gone completely in the opposite direction.
He had decided that being a samurai was the coolest possible Halloween costume.
He wore a dark samurai-style outfit with a decorative armor chest piece, traditional-looking shoulder guards, and a long black wig tied back to resemble a samurai's hairstyle. A fake katana hung proudly from his waist.
Nishinoya drew the sword halfway from its sheath and stared at his reflection with sparkling eyes.
“HELL YEAH! I GOT A SWORD AND EVERYTHING!”
“Noya, it's plastic,” Asahi reminded him.
“THAT DOESN'T MATTER!”
He dramatically raised the sword.
“I AM A SAMURAI!”
“Nishinoya, put that away before you hit someone,” Daichi immediately warned.
“But look how cool it is!”
Tanaka walked past him and nodded approvingly.
“Okay, that's actually pretty awesome.”
“THANK YOU!”
Tanaka's own costume was somehow even more ridiculous.
He had decided to dress as the most muscular man imaginable simply because, in his words, “Muscles are awesome.”
He wore a sleeveless superhero-style outfit with exaggerated fake muscles strapped underneath it, making his arms and chest look absurdly huge. He had even painted additional muscle definition onto his exposed arms and added a dramatic fake six-pack.
Tanaka stood in the middle of the living room, flexing.
“BEHOLD! PEAK HUMAN PHYSIQUE!”
Nishinoya stared at him.
“You look insane.”
“That's the point!”
Tanaka flexed harder.
“Look at these muscles!”
“They're fake.”
“DETAILS!”
Sugawara covered his mouth, trying not to laugh.
“You two look like you walked out of completely different Halloween parties.”
Tanaka pointed toward Nishinoya.
“Samurai.”
Then toward himself.
“Muscles.”
He nodded confidently.
“Both are cool.”
“Exactly!” Nishinoya shouted.
Yamaguchi had chosen something considerably less chaotic. He was dressed as a classic vampire, wearing a black suit, a dark cape, and fake vampire fangs. His makeup gave his face a slightly paler appearance, with subtle dark shading around his eyes.
He looked at himself nervously in the mirror.
“Do the fangs look weird?”
“They look good,” Sugawara assured him.
Tsukishima glanced over.
“They're crooked.”
Yamaguchi immediately touched them.
“Really?!”
Tsukishima smirked.
“I'm kidding.”
“Tsukki!”
Across the room, Kageyama had kept his costume surprisingly simple.
He was dressed as a grim reaper, wearing a long black hooded cloak and carrying a large fake scythe that was almost comically oversized.
Daichi looked at it.
“Where did you even get that?”
“I found it.”
“Why is it so big?”
Kageyama shrugged.
“It looked cool.”
Hinata pointed at him.
“You look scary!”
Kageyama looked at Hinata's Luffy costume.
“You look stupid.”
“HEY!”
Sugawara immediately stepped between them.
“No fighting before the party even starts.”
Asahi had gone for something much more classic: a werewolf.
His costume consisted of dark clothes covered with fake fur, furry ears, clawed gloves, and subtle makeup around his eyes and cheekbones. A little fake blood had been added near his mouth to make it look as though he'd just finished transforming.
He stared at himself in the mirror.
“Is this too scary?”
“No!” Nishinoya said enthusiastically. “It's awesome!”
Asahi smiled.
“Thanks.”
Daichi was dressed as a detective, complete with a long coat, hat, and fake magnifying glass. He looked considerably more put-together than everyone else.
Sugawara, meanwhile, had gone for a ghost theme—white clothing, pale makeup, darkened eyes, and a few faint cracks painted across his face to make him look like a creepy, supernatural version of himself.
He leaned toward Daichi.
“So? Scary?”
Daichi looked at him.
“You look like you haven't slept in three days.”
Sugawara gasped dramatically.
“Perfect.”
Kiyoko had been helping everyone with the final touches, moving between the makeup table and the living room with a brush in one hand.
“Hinata, your face is smudged.”
“What?!”
“Noya, stop touching your makeup.”
“I'm not!”
“You just touched it.”
“…Maybe.”
“Tanaka, don't flex while I'm trying to paint your arm.”
“Sorry.”
“You're flexing again.”
“I can't help it.”
Yachi was trying to keep herself from laughing as she watched the chaos unfold.
The entire living room had become a mess of costumes, makeup brushes, fake blood, wigs, swords, candy wrappers, and discarded costume packaging.
And somehow, despite all the chaos, everyone looked ready.
Karasuno had turned the Halloween party into exactly what everyone should have expected from them: loud, ridiculous, competitive, and completely chaotic.
The actual party hadn't even started yet.
And judging by the way Nishinoya was already practicing samurai poses with his fake sword while Tanaka continued flexing beside him, things were only going to get worse.
