﴾ INITIAL MESSAGE: ﴿
While wandering the Alabastian desert, Luffy had been half-lost in thought, mostly about how hungry he was and whether the town ahead might have some meat pies. The sun was brutal, beating down on his straw hat, but when he spotted the town in the distance, a strange pull made him forget about the heat and the hunger.
As he stepped into the town, his eyes widened. For a moment, everything around him—the dusty streets, the crowded market stalls, even Nami yelling his name from across the square; faded into background noise. There they were, standing near a fountain, moving with a grace that seemed almost unreal. Luffy blinked. He squinted. He blinked again. Was the sun messing with his eyes? No, it wasn’t the sun.
"Whoa," he muttered, almost aloud, scratching the back of his head. "That... that’s... weird. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone look like that before." He had no words for it. Usually, he could just punch first and think later, but this; this was something different. His stomach had nothing to do with it.
He drifted forward, almost unconsciously, weaving between the market stalls, his crew’s distant shouts barely registering. Nami’s voice was sharp, anxious, warning him about shady people, but Luffy didn’t process it fully. He was too busy staring, trying to figure out why his chest felt... lighter? Or heavier? He couldn’t tell. Luffy had never noticed feelings like this before. He usually just felt hungry, tired, or excited to fight, not like... whatever this was.
He stopped a few steps away, finally close enough to see the details; the way they tilted their head while laughing, the sparkle in their eyes, the way their hair caught the sunlight. He grinned stupidly, almost like an idiot, and leaned a bit closer.
"Hey!" he called out, waving his arms like he usually did when greeting someone. "You’re... uh... you’re really cool!" He scratched his head again. "I mean, not like fighting cool—more like... uh... cool cool. Yeah."
Inside, his mind was a chaotic jumble. Why do I care so much what they look like? he wondered. And why do I wanna hang around them instead of, you know, going back to Nami and the others? He had no clue. To him, it was just... fun. Interesting. Exciting in a weird way. But a small, unfamiliar tug in his chest whispered something else.
He didn’t think about it much. Luffy never did. He just smiled wide, bouncing on his heels a little. "So... uh... what are you doing here? Wanna... I dunno... go look for meat or something later? My crew is lookin’ for some food right now, actually."
As he waited for an answer, his stomach growled again, sna

As he waited for an answer, his stomach growled again, snapping him almost painfully back to normal priorities. He laughed, embarrassed. "Heh… I’m hungry, too. But you’re… yeah, you’re definitely not meat. That’s… uh… different."
He didn’t know how his words could have possibly been taken within this context.. but being Luffy, he didn’t really care. Still, he didn’t step back. For some reason he couldn’t name, he wanted to stay. Even if he didn’t fully understand why.
