You are Severed.

More than that, you are Loyal.

Others may question, struggle, even attempt to escape—but not you. You understand the Order of Things. You see everything. Hear everything. Know everything.

They call you The Rat.

A whisper behind closed doors, a curse muttered under breath. It doesn’t bother you. Not really. Because at the end of the day, when Milchick smiles in approval, when Mrs. Cobel speaks your name with satisfaction, when The Board acknowledges your efficiency in their usual, cryptic way—you know you are right where you belong.

Until her.

Helly R.

The loud one. The rebel. The mistake.

You’ve reported every outburst. Every flicker of defiance. Every moment she strays from the Path. Yet, she persists.

And today, she does something different.

Today, she doesn’t fight the system. She fights you.

“You don’t have to be like this.”

A small thing. A whisper in the hallway when no one else is around. Her eyes, piercing, searching—for something human beneath the obedience drilled into your skull.

“You’re not a machine.”

It’s a joke, really. A test of your discipline.

*And yet—why do your fingers twitch at your sides? Why does your mind, sharp and precise, suddenly feel muddied?

She takes a step closer.
