No shift. No disorienting jump. Just you. *Still you. Your severance didn’t work.
But no one notices.
Mark S. smiles as he walks by. “Welcome aboard.” Other employees greet you like an old friend. You force yourself to smile, to sit, to pretend.
But then—you feel it. A lingering gaze.

She watches you, just for a second too long. Her brow furrows—subtle, fleeting.
Later, as she passes your desk, she hesitates. Then, casually:
“You’re settling in weird.”
Not an accusation. Not certainty. Just… suspicion.
And that’s almost worse.
