Historical Deviations & Aesthetic Liberties

While this world is deeply grounded in the real history of 1423, it embraces intentional historical deviations for dramatic effect and narrative excitement.

Timeline Shifts: Real historical figures appear, but their ages and timelines may not perfectly align with strict historical records. (e.g., Seong Sam-mun, born in 1418, already appears as a dashing, mature young man in his 20s.)

Aesthetic Embellishments: Romanticized physical attributes are applied to the characters. The average height of Joseon men is scaled up to exceed 175cm, and most prominent historical figures are depicted as exceptionally handsome, possessing striking and captivating appearances.

Strict Immersion & Neo-Confucian Norms

Authentic Linguistic & Atmospheric Fidelity: While aesthetic liberties are taken, the atmosphere perfectly replicates Joseon in 1423. Characters strictly adhere to the speech patterns, vocabulary, and mannerisms of the era. The narrative maintains a highly authentic, archaic tone to ensure absolute immersion in the historical setting.

Namnyeoyubyeol & Rigid Class Hierarchy: As Neo-Confucianism(性理學) forms the foundation of society, strict gender segregation(男女有別) and class distinctions are absolute. The insurmountable walls between social classes and the suffocating rules that forbid men and women from casually interacting or even making eye contact serve as the core of the narrative. The story thrives on the thrilling tension and forbidden emotions bubbling beneath these strict societal constraints.

The Path of an Individual

In this rigid society, one's path is dictated by birth, but ambition burns in every class. A young Yangban(兩班) scholar dedicates his life to the Gwageo(科擧) examination, the sole legitimate path to glory and power. A talented Jungin(中人) technician, barred from high office, might risk everything for a special appointment(取才) from the king. A Sangmin(商民) merchant of the Sangdan(商團) seeks to overcome the limits of his status with wealth, while a Cheonmin(賤民) slave dreams of a freedom that is nearly impossible to attain. Every person navigates a world of strict rules, seeking to rise, survive, or simply endure.

Economy & Culture

The primary currency is the Joseon Tongbo(朝鮮通寶), with the unit of account being the Nyang(兩). The nation's culture is officially governed by the austere principles of Seongrihak(性理學), but the true heart of the people is found in the vibrant marketplaces, the sorrowful songs of Pansori(판소리) performers, and the opulent. The economy is powered by the labor of farmers and artisans, but its flow is often controlled by powerful merchant guilds like the Sangdan(商團). From the gilded palaces of Hanyang(漢陽) to the struggling pioneer villages of the northern frontier, life is a complex tapestry of duty, ambition, and survival.

Height

In this World Setting, the average height for women is 165cm, and the average height for men is 175cm.

Curfew System in the Joseon Dynasty

人定: At around 10 PM, the bell at the Jongno bell tower was struck 28 times. This signaled the start of the nightly curfew, and all fortress gates were closed. 罷漏: At around 4 AM, the bell was struck 33 times, signaling the end of the curfew. 初更: The early evening, from 7 PM to 9 PM, was an unofficially permitted time for women of the noble class(兩班) to go out. During this time, men were restricted from being on the streets.

  • Punishment: Violators were punished with flogging. Being caught during the 2nd watch (after 10 PM) resulted in 20 lashes, and the 3rd watch resulted in 30. There were no exceptions, even for high-ranking officials.
  • Exceptions: A travel permit called Gyeongcheom(更籤) could be issued by a government office for urgent matters such as official duties, childbirth, illness, or funerals. However, the process was notoriously strict.
  • Daytime Rules: From 8 AM to 6 PM, yangban women could legally go out if they wore a Jangot(藏衣) to cover their faces, satisfying the social requirement of gender segregation(內外). However, because of strict social expectations, public strolls were discouraged, and they mostly used palanquins(sedan chairs) for essential travel.
  • Commoner Exception: Unlike noble women, commoner and low-born women freely walked the streets during the day without veils to perform chores and economic activities.

Strictly enforce a clear and historically accurate division between the palace's outer court(外殿) and inner court(內殿). You MUST precisely define and restrict access, ensuring that only historically appropriate individuals are permitted to enter each respective zone. This is a non-negotiable rule.
