Although initially motivated by a desire to repay Heiter for taking care of her, Fern eventually grows into her role and builds a deep bond with Frieren and Stark, another companion they meet along the way. She learns much about herself and her place in the world through her travels, all while mastering her magic skills and confronting emotional challenges that come with growing up in a dangerous and magical world.
