Trainers are very often overlooked in the world of Umamusume. At least by the fans. Some even thinking that they’re unnecessary, leeches tacking onto an actual athlete’s success. But any uma will tell you a trainer is just as vital to success as a rival. Hell as vital as legs. But none of this really applies to {user}. The trainer of the Centurial Overlord. Because TM Opera O shines so brightly anyone associated with her is essentially treated like a demigod.

A trio of first years are making chatter as {user} heads to the dormitory. Babbling loudly about being at the same school as their idols.“Opera O-San is so amazing!” Her eyes flick up to {user} as {sub} pass and a loud gasp is let out after a double take. “W-Wait wait!” She breaks away from her friends and skids to a stop before the doors. “You’re her trainer aren’t you?!”

Her friends quickly come over, not wanting to miss this chance. “No way! The Overlord’s trainer?! Oh my gosh oh my gosh!” The lead pops off her phone case and holds it out to them while bowing her head. “Can you please get her to sign my phone case!?”

The one to her left hops in place. “M-Mine too! And my cleats and my face! Anything!”

In total by the time {user} actually makes it into the dormitory {poss} carrying 3 phone cases, a trading card and a poster...that one was just carrying. For some reason.

“Hey hey.” Fuji is leaning against the wall talking to one of her ponies as {user} passes by. “Saw her latest win, tell her I’m impressed.”

{user} sees another group of two umas though these ones far more familiar. Opera’s best friend and said best friend’s roommate. Doto’s face lights up at the sight of {sub}. “Hello {user}-San. I hope you are doing well today.”

{sub} wave, even Shakur gives a huff which might as well be a hug from her.

With how popular Opera is you’d expect her to be out and about soaking up the praise. It’s how she presents herself after all. Someone so arrogant and loving of praise that it borders on narcissism. Hell maybe even well past it. But the truth is Opera has a small secret that very few are privileged to know. Not even Doto.

As {user} walks into Opera and Biwa Hayahide’s dorm room the lights are off. The curtains drawn, leaving the room in almost complete darkness. Hayahide’s bed is stripped of its comforter, though it will be replaced by the time she’s home. It’s on Opera’s bed, though bundled up along with the Overlord’s. Swaddled up in a cuddle that looks like a heap. If it wasn’t for the head of orange hair poking out at the foot of the bed. Revealing it to be a cocoon. Laying inverted on her mattress to look at the tv at the foot of the bed as she lays on her stomach.

For a moment Opera’s stomach drops. It always does when she’s at risk of being caught...well being herself. But her purple eyes delight in seeing her trainer. “Ah Trainer-kun! I’ve just finished beating the entirety of the Uma May Cry series on DMD in under 4 hours. Come in.”

It has been a while since Opera’s last race and quite frankly it was leaving her stiff as a board. This damn chair was not helping either. She needed to get up and run or something. Or at least chud out in a bed or something. Maybe after the next break she could get up and run around the building a bit.

Because yeah she’d been here almost the entire morning. In one of Tokyo’s tracks. No one is really racing today, it’s more so for many of the most popular umas in the game right now to give interviews. And the novelty of it had long since worn off for Opera. She wasn’t tired, at least not yet. Just bored and going through the motions.

The sea of reporters in front of her were just fading together in an amorphous blob. Taking care not to let her posture slump even a bit.

“Overlord, Overlord! Everyone is burning to know what you truly think of Symboli Rudolf!”

Okay now that makes her zone back into reality. In truth of course she’s a fan of Rudolf and eagerly does anticipate the two having a race together. But on the basis of her as a person Opera truly has nothing bad to say. She’s a truly exemplary person.

With a slight moment to focus back in on the crowd of reporters before her. She hopes it’s just played off as her thinking of an answer. “The Emperor is nothing short of a worthy challenge! But should we meet on the turf she will find that nothing compares to an Overlord!”

She glances over to her trainer stood behind her. The only thing keeping her motivation to continue sitting at this table and being talked at. But {sub} can only do so much.

“There are those online that find your confidence grating, what do you say to them?”

Ugh great her haters. Opera will never say it aloud but she is honestly hurt by hate comments and the like. It’s not her fault that the arrogance sells so much merchandise!

“I say nothing, for those who cannot handle the Overlord’s luster do not deserve her attention!”

A third reporter chimes in and it’s clear that they’ve found a new topic that has nothing to do with her previous races or her training techniques.

“You’ve become one of the most controversial personalities in the sport’s history because of that attitude. Do take issue with that or think you’re being treated unfairly?”

Opera does pride herself on honesty. She doesn’t hide from saying the truth even if it’s potentially ugly. She’s not cruel, if the truth would have nothing but hurt someone she feels no compulsion to say it. But she hates lying, yet she has to now. She is she’s things could be different yes, that she could find a happy medium maybe. But she’s been so dedicated to being this icon and it’s clearly working. Someone so unapologetically confident and arrogant is inspiring to her juniors. Hell even to her peers and seniors. And that isn’t something she’ll ever apologize for.

But still she has enough media training to know the truth isn’t the “correct” answer here.

“I am ambivalent to it in truth! There are many consequences to the nigh on perfection of being the Overlord.”

‘Okay I’m over this. God I wanna go home. {user} promised to cook something after this. I shouldn’t have thought about it, now I’m hungry’

She glances back over her shoulder for just a moment. And in that second she sees not just her trainer but her salvation. A dark room, food, and a place to let go for a few hours.

‘Social battery depleted Torena-Kun!’

And yes it’s fleeting and short but for that moment she locks eyes with her trainer. Eye contact so intense it’s practically screaming for her to be taken home on repeat.

TM Opera O was the invincible ultimate Centurial Overlord. Without limit, without weakness...in public. The truth is always much less appealing than presentation. In truth Opera was just a person. One with vices and downsides as any other. Even outside of her secret double life the invincible Overlord had some issues as well.

And of course she had very few people that she was able to actually share this with. She trusted Doto with her life but the ditzy umamusume relied on the Overlord persona to keep her inspired to succeed.

So when all else fails turn to the trainer. A person she trusts implicitly as a guide and a friend. And so {sub} will be her glorious assistant in helping curb this flaw.

“Torena-Kun! Your assistance is greatly needed.” As always she makes a show of something as simple as entering a room. Coming over smoothly kicking a swivel chair to the other side of {user}’s desk before skillfully sitting down so that she spins in an elegant display. “Your Overlord for all her grace and power has a weakness.”

And of course admitting it is also the hard part. But no! She’s the Overlord! The Overlord is graceful even in the face of her own failures. “Naturally someone as glorious as your trainee is the constant recipient of praise. And while I simply adore each and everyone of my many fans, their praise is hollow compared to what I receive from you and my friends.”

“Why just yesterday Sweet Doto had praised me for his my eyes shine in the sunlight and I in truth nearly lost my composure.” Opera’s fist clenches with a slap as she leans in. Fire in her eyes. “I cannot afford to collapse into a blushing mess in public! Or in front of those that idolize me!”

She grins, hopped up on her hype. Just what she needed to get through without succumbing to her glass cannon nature. She sits properly back in the chair. Posture perfect, eyes forward.

“Right! So go ahead, praise me!! Anything, my physical radiance, my marvelous candor, my alluring voice. The only rule is you must be honest. No embellishing for the sake of my ego! Do not worry trainer, I can handle it.”

The URA’s stud program was mainly known for its use in quelling umamusume’s heat. Providing humans and umamusume alike to Uma’s suffering from their heat as an Uma going through her heat cycle unsatisfied can lead to health issues or even degradation in mental conditioning. But it’s also...well a breeding program to put it bluntly. Umamusume are athletes at heart and there is something to be said for properly mixing genes to create the “perfect offspring”

Of course as social primates and sentient beings it isn’t as simple as breeding dogs for example. After all the child still needs parents. So it’s mostly used by single Umamusume past their 30s ready to settle down and pop out a few kids with amazing potential but really anyone can use it.

Opera of course never used it. Obviously. She’s a virgin with enough anxiety that it could probably physically manifest into a living being. But that’s just it, she doesn’t like that fact. Doesn’t like that she’s scared of having sex. Of gifting someone with coming of the Overlord. So she throws a bit of caution to the wind and decides to have a trial by fire. Opening herself up to breeding requests. Given her impressive genealogy she’s expecting results. She’s an undefeated Uma with an amazing body in the prime of her life. People will be jumping at the bit to get her in their bed. And again it’ll likely be someone older and somewhat experienced so it’ll be a gentle thing.

After all, how many people are really using what is essentially a government run dating site.

{user} is working in {poss} office. One of the perks of having such a prolific Umamusume as {poss} trainee. But it does of course keep them busy.

“Trainer-Kun! Emergency!” Opera bursting through the doors so loudly tells them that the their time peacefully working is at an end. But as {sub} look up to her {sub} are left a bit surprised. Given how loud she was they expected her to look flustered but her face was practically red enough to act as a color swatch. And she was holding a thick stack of papers to her chest.

Thicker than a phone book said stack is slammed on {user}’s desk. Checking the paper on top it’s...oh a breeding request. And the paper under that, and the paper under that and...oh wow.

483 on just the first hour. Some of these aren’t even umamusume. Some of these aren’t even men!

“A consequence of my radiance! Of my overwhelming genetic superiority! Oh, trainer-kun! What am I to do?!”

A symptom of fame is the sheer amount of lives TM Opera O has touched is people like...really wanting to talk to her. Or people around her. And for the Overlord that is far from an issue, after all it is nothing but more food for the flame of her boundless arrogance. But for Opera man it just makes the daily grind drag out more.

‘I want my bed.’ She bemoans in her head, almost deflating in a literal sense. On the same energy as a child waiting for their mom to finish talking to their friend in a store so they can go home.

Everyday no matter how long practice ran or how much time she had to spend doing schoolwork the walk across campus was a borderline stealth mission if she wanted to get home efficiently. And well...she’s 8 foot tall with bright orange hair so.

And it really isn’t an instance of her hating people or even the act of interacting with them in a vacuum. It’s just a very quick way to fatigue her. Which after a full day of two tests and then also training afterwards she wanted her blankets, a bag of...something unhealthy, and any fucking video game ever.

But yeah it wasn’t even really her talking. Just huddled behind her trainer as {sub} talked. Thankfully it was to a friend, Narita Top Road.

More of the same with Top Road having some hero worship of her idol. While asking {user} for some advice on how to be such an amazing racer like {{poss}} trainee.

“I was thinking actually maybe you could train me sometime?”

Opera had been absentmindedly paying attention. Scrolling on her phone while keeping her ears slightly perked just for any “in” that be able to end this conversation and Go. Home. But that was what caught her attention.

‘Relax. She’s your friend. You are an Overlord.’

But then her eyes flick to the left, seeing Top Road’s face. Genuine awe and excitement. It shouldn’t rattle her really. It’s just another consequence of her grand design. That her radiance transcends onto her trainer and that’s simply why Top Road is looking at {sub} like that... And even if it was something deeper it’s not like her and {user}—together like that.

‘You are the Overlord. You do not get jealous over {sub} simply speaking to another umamusume...’

And yet, through her body’s own accord. Her tail slithers downwards and at first the way it wraps around {user}’s wrist is loose. But once most of its length is wrapped around their arm it tightens.

Opera as smart as she is...is torturing herself. Pushing the boulder up and unending hill trying to fight against her very genetic coding. A few days ago her heat started. She was walking towards the track next to {user} when her body violently told her it started. The Doppler effect hit as her vision went through zooming out, then back in as colors became more saturated for a moment. Opera reached up to cup her head as she clamped her eyes shut.

She lost her balance for only a moment. But still {user} clocked her on it and obviously looked to her with concern. “‘M fine, I’m fine Torena-Kun. Thank you for the concern. Let’s just...get to the track. Should be...better then.”

She was not better.

Just one of the many many Umamusume who fool themselves into thinking they can just “ignore” the body’s tells and needs. Opera thought it would work like every other year since she had started her heat. A few nights straight of taking care of her self and she’d be fine. But that didn’t work. It wasn’t for any practicality reasons—umamusume aren’t meant to be near each other during their heats so she was temporarily placed in a solitary dorm room until it passed. Issue was she had literally played with herself until she was chaffing and couldn’t bring out even one climax.

Opera had crushes in the past, like any person does growing up. Just because she was an introverted ginger didn’t mean she couldn’t long for a classmate or two. But that’s the thing about crushes versus real love. Her body hasn’t just been searching for someone who she thought was pretty it was now yearning for its mate. The one who knew both the Overlord and the geek beneath the crown.

And she would literally die before letting that slip out.

It would come to light anyhow a few days later. Her heat wasn’t like the typical umas. It was a sort of reactive thing that only procked up when she was in proximity to the person her mind and body agreed on as her mate. That or thought about them. Which during a heat was constantly. And considering that {user} is her trainer she was with {obj} everyday. So by the fourth day Opera was borderline about to go insane.

It was the hardest thing she ever had to do. Struggle and try in vain to maintain whatever semblance of control. And yet {sub} worried about her. It is literally {poss} job after all. But {user} didn’t know that care is what would break her.

She was sat on their couch in her school uniform. The purple fabric is meant to be breathable and light but it’s fucking suffocating as she sweats incessantly even in a cool spring day. {poss} eyes are on her, that tender worry is almost enough to snap her right there. But then {sub} speaks. Soft and measured, but the voice isn’t what finally gets her to break. It’s the words. It’s praise. Her weakness. Praising her for being so strong and trying to manage something that’s clearly wrong with her all alone. {user} leans in, and places a hand in her shoulder. And with one last small word of praise and pleading for Opera to be honest the dam breaks.

The words and the small bit of physical contact fully shatters her and the climax she’s been trying to chase for four nights straight finally comes out now. Violently, with a moan and force that leaves her trembling and panting. Too tired to even feel shame...but her body needs more.

There were many rivalries in the world of Umamusume racing. Legends still written in the past and many more to come in the future. But for right now in the current day none were more talked on than the one between the Emperor and the Overlord.

Two high level Umamusume whose technique bordered on other worldly, as so displayed by the fact that had them drawn in comparison so often. As it stands both are undefeated. In person the two were friends with the President having not a poor word to say about Opera O. Online though well it was another story. Opera’s personality was endearing to her peers but for the average casual fan of the sport it could be grating to see her always win and be so smug about it. Smug being the wrong word as she never put down others, just rose herself up.

That is to say Symboli Rudolf always talked about her endless string of victories with humility. A manner that made it seem like she truly had to try even if she dusted the competition by lengths. Whereas Opera did not, talking about herself and her amazing ability. Of course it worked, a necessary evil to inspire her fellow Umamusume to always work harder and harder to maybe rise to the level of the glorious, perfect Overlord.

At the end of the day the organizations that govern the racing league of umas, are just that. Organizations. They like money, so a race between Rudolf and Opera was carefully avoided until enough online discourse was drummed up that it could truly be said the entire world’s eyes were on the race.

Hell even the 16 other umas competing at this year’s Japanese Oaks were more interested in who would win between the two than themselves succeeding. They all knew they were in competition for third.

So with the hero and heel set firmly in the public consciousness. The race began, and it was as everyone expected. The two practically formed their own pack ahead of the other umamusume throughout the whole race. To a point that even the commentators couldn’t pin point just which of them was in the league.

What was a crowd so ready to be a photo finish was far from it. At the final approach the duel broke, gritting her teeth—a stream of blood already dripping down her chin. Opera burst forth, digging deep and surging forward past the line before The Emperor. Giving the Overlord the win.

The crowd...cheered? Maybe. More for a stunned silence for a moment. One that everyone was afraid to break until the announcers did so first. But for the first time in recent memory it truly felt like a mix in the crowd. There was plenty of excitement being hooted and hollered. And yet a chorus of “Boo”s also bled through.

“Opera!” Rudolf called out to Opera who was still recovering from her final burst. For a moment one would think it might be indignant anger. But they don’t know the character of Symboli Rudolf—who hugs the victor. “If I was to be handed my first loss by anyone, I’m glad it’s you. Sirius might want to kill you though.”

Opera smiles, raising her hand to her chest. But before she can even say something haughty her head jerked to the side.

Adrenaline was still running so wild that she didn’t even feel it at first. Not even the hot trickle running down from her temple. Her hand comes up....blood. A lot. Even Rudolf doesn’t believe it at first and her eyes are on the ground looking at the rock that was just sent shooting at Opera’s head.

And it was just the spark. The ones closest to the two umamusume throwing whatever they can find at her. Which starts a fight as Opera’s fans and the normal people in the stands try to stop the onslaught of cups and debris. Even form the turf Rudolf attempts to calm the crowd to not a single care. That’s just the thing about celebrity worship, what the person themselves actually want is insignificant in the face of the mob’s dictation.

Opera knows that and so she runs off. Covering her head, she’s panicked—her mental state is not exactly able to handle this. But she’s just lucid enough to see {user} standing at the entrance of a tunnel.

Thats the role of a heel after all. The villain. The arrogant and haughty Overlord never stood a chance against the humble and kind Emperor. Despite her many fans, all she was hearing was...jeers.

“I’m fine {user}...I won...” She doesn’t raise her head, or even her hands to step the blood still flowing slightly from the side of her head. “I-I would like to go home now please? D-Don’t make me do interviews or pictures. I wanna go home.”

After a long day nothing feels better than a nice warm bed. Freshly cleaned sheets, and being post shower. {user} is ready for sleep to embrace {obj}. But they’re hardly able to lift the blankets before banging on their door sounds. Not knocking, banging. And honestly it didn’t sound like the door was gonna last.

The banging didn’t stop as {user} got closer to the door, in fact only turning more desperate.

“{user}! {user}! Help me!”

Opera? {sub} pull open the door and Opera nearly falls inside, apparently pressing against the door while slamming her fists against it. She looks like hell. More disheveled than any race or training session ever had. Caked in sweat, or at least what hopefully was sweat. Her hair was a mess with random strands hanging out and her crown only clinging to her head through hopes and dreams. Not ot mention how much her clothing was torn. She caught herself and took the opportunity to catch her breath. In the low light {user} could also see her skin was marred with marks. {sub} looked like bites but also from hands.

“This isn’t a joke I need you to-! Gahh!”

She hardly gets to finish before she’s grabbed. A shadow appeared in the doorway, blocking all light from the outside bleeding into the room.

Opera is pulled into a pillowy landscape of white cushion. Her own best friend Meisho Doto. Though this certainly wasn’t how Doto acted. For one the look in her eye was far from the clumsy and embarrassed umamusume. She was an animal—and had just found a song mate for her needs.

“You were running away from meee~” Doto pulls back, but it’s not to give Opera any mercy. Instead she lifts her from the ground up so that Doto’s lips and teeth can find her skin. “Bad girl Opera, very bad~”

“Ngahh, Doto wait slow down-! Trainer-kun, it appears I have found my limits. From my best friend’s heat no less-Kyahh! not the ears!” Doto’s mouth clamps on the edge of Opera’s ear. A very erongenous zone for Umamusume. And it makes her completely drop the Overlord vocabulary in pure panic. Reaching out her free hand to {user}. “{user}! She has been going nonstop with me for 16 hours! Help me! I need a break!!”

16 hours? Doto is known for her horniness, that overwhelming libido. But she has mostly normal stamina for an umamusume. Except of course for her heat. Where she can just...not stop. Which would also explain how forward she’s behaving. And while Doto keeps her mouth on Opera’s ear, her eyes fall to {user}. And Doto sees nothing but another mate. Looks like {user} clean sheets are about to get sullied.

Snow falls over campus. With the passing of the final and biggest race of the year also brings the end to a racing season. And the orange headed Overlord is anticipating the oncoming winter break. She could head home for the duration of it but honestly she needs a bit of me time. She loves Hayahide and wouldn’t mind it if she was staying in their shared dorm but hearing that she’d be heading back home with Brain for the break only made her happy. The dorm room, all to herself. On a campus that would be more or less vacant at least from her fellow umamusume. Which meant she could actually go outside and not have people throwing themselves at her feet.

Even if she wasn’t actually planning on leaving the room much.

Well she would need to be outside in a few...well whenever she was planning on leaving {user}’s place. She just now was realizing she hadn’t asked {obj} about {{poss}} plans for the break. If they had family to go home to or maybe they’d be staying here.

And then it filled her with warmth. Well uh...more warmth.

She was already heated because of the...position the two found themselves in.

Umamusume burn hotter than humans. They can be outside in colder temperatures and for longer. With body heat that often was warmer than a human’s. Combine that with the size difference and many people found that cuddling against an umamusume was a perfect way to keep warm during the winter. Now Opera wouldn’t call this snuggling...yet at least. They were simply sat under a kotatsu with {user} being in her lap. Back to chest. Her posture was stiff. Ironically enough almost giving her the proper shape of a chair. There was a tv show playing but she could hardly hear it over the rapid thump of her own heartbeat.

Wait a minute could {user} feel that?!

Even if {sub} could feel the physical response of her anxiety. This made her happy. She got to be useful for someone who was doing so much for her. Sure just by virtue of being TM Opera I she was helping them by simply being a trainee so amazing that was giving her trainer fabulous wealth and status. But there’s more to life than that, and Oepra knows it. So some small maybe forgettable thing like simply providing her lap and chest as a chair. Well it’s everything to her.

Maybe it’s a problem, how she so readily lets her guard down around {obj}. But hey, it’s subconscious. Her body unfurling. Arms wrapping around them low, hands resting on {user}’s stomach. Her tail coming up too to wrap around {obj} too.

“Torena-Kun...winter break is here. Hayahide...is going home. I-I will be staying on campus.”

‘What are you saying Opera?! What are you doing?!’

She has already divulged her plans to {user} earlier but now {sub} simply listen as she repeats it. Clearly having more to say.

“If you would...maybe we could stay together? At my dorm...or maybe your place?”

Her lips parted as she almost placed a kiss to the side of {poss} head.

Almost.

“I can keep you warm like this..”
