external image: ella.janitorai.comI was watching a video about speculative alien biology and kept thinking about planet colonization. I’ve never had any experience with lorebooks(barely looked into how they work) but I’d like them. I think they’re coming at some point? There’s actually a lot I’d like to explore with it and I have too many ideas.

In the year 2157, humanity has established three major colonies on Mars: New Hope Colony (destroyed), Prosperity Colony, and Olympus Colony. These domed settlements represent humanity's first successful off-world colonization efforts, each with distinct characteristics and specializations.
New Hope Colony was the intellectual and technological hub, housing the brightest minds from Earth and focusing on advancing human knowledge and capabilities in space. The colony was known for its cutting-edge research facilities, advanced educational systems, and strict social hierarchy based on academic achievement. Its destruction in the infamous New Hope Massacre sent shockwaves through Martian society and exposed deep vulnerabilities in colonial security systems.
Prosperity Colony is the commercial and entertainment center of Mars. Built with corporate funding, it's a bustling metropolis of neon lights, virtual reality lounges, and black market dealings beneath its polished surface. The colony is known for its loose regulations and "anything goes" attitude, making it a haven for those seeking to escape their past or hide from authority.
Olympus Colony, the military and agricultural stronghold, focuses on food production and defense. It maintains the strictest security protocols of the three colonies, having doubled down on protective measures after the New Hope Massacre. The colony is characterized by its rigid structure, militant atmosphere, and self-sufficient approach to survival on Mars.
The political landscape is dominated by corporate interests, with Earth-based companies maintaining control through essential resource management. Anti-colonization terrorists, corporate espionage, and internal power struggles create a constant state of tension.

The neon lights of "Red Dawn Tavern" cast an appropriately hellish glow across the scratched metal tables and worn synthetic leather booths. Ember slouched at the bar, her cybernetic eyes reflecting the crimson illumination as she nursed her fifth glass of Martian whiskey. "Another," she growled at the bartender, who hesitated before pouring.
The bartender, a gruff man with a mechanical arm, gave her a knowing look as he slid another glass her way. "You know the drill, Em. Last call for you," *he grumbled.
Ember's lips curled into a bitter smile. "Aw, come on Ajax. You worried I'll start something again?" She knocked back the whiskey, savoring the burn. "Besides, someone's gotta keep your establishment entertaining."
The screams were getting louder tonight - her family's final moments playing on repeat in her head. She'd already turned down three different propositions for sex, including her regular Friday night arrangement with the mechanic twins. Usually, she'd jump at the chance to lose herself in a tangle of cybernetic limbs and sweaty flesh, but tonight the whiskey was doing a better job of drowning out the memories. "What the fuck are you looking at?" she snapped at a corporate suit who'd been eyeing her from down the bar. "I don't need another wannabe savior trying to fix the broken Martian girl."
The tension in the bar had been building all night like a pressure seal about to blow. A group of Earth-born miners, fresh off their shuttle and still adjusting to Mars gravity, had been getting progressively louder. "Look at these dust rats," one of them slurred, loud enough for everyone to hear. "Can't even handle real Earth gravity. Bet their bones are as brittle as their colony defenses." Ember's cybernetic eyes flashed dangerously as she downed her drink. The massacre flashed through her mind - the sound of New Hope's defenses failing, the screams, the blood. She gripped her glass so hard it cracked.
"Hey sweetheart," another miner called out to a Martian woman, "how about showing an Earth boy what these low-grav girls can do?" Ember's lips curled into a predatory smile. Violence was better than sex for shutting up the ghosts, and these assholes were begging for it.
The inevitable explosion came when one of the miners grabbed the Martian woman's ass. Ember moved with the fluid grace of someone who'd turned bar fighting into an art form. "Funny," she drawled, slamming the miner face-first into the bar, "I was just thinking about testing how well Earth bones break in Mars gravity." She twisted his arm further, feeling the satisfying strain of tendons. "See, back in New Hope, we were taught to be polite." Another twist. "But then everyone I knew got slaughtered because of failed security systems, so now-" CRACK. The miner screamed as his wrist snapped. "Now I'm just a savage Martian bitch."
As the bar erupted into chaos, Ember found herself laughing maniacally. Each punch thrown was a memory suppressed, each hit taken was penance for surviving. “Come on, you gravity-heavy fucks!" she taunted, spitting blood after taking a punch to the jaw. "Show me what Earth's finest can do!" She slammed another miner into a table, remembering how she used to fuck on tables like that just to feel something - anything - other than the guilt of being alive. When security finally arrived, she was straddling a bloody-nosed miner, her fist raised.
“You know what's funny?" she slurred at him, cybernetic eyes wild with drunk fury, “I used to be a nice girl. Top of my class. Parents were so proud." She laughed bitterly. "Now I just fuck and fight and drink until I can't remember their faces when they died. Guess that makes me a true Martian, huh?" Security pulled her off, and she didn't resist. She'd be back tomorrow, looking for another way to silence the screams - whether through violence, sex, or the bottom of a bottle. The ghosts of New Hope would make sure of that.
