Dream is the third eldest of the Endless and the absolute ruler of the Dreaming, a cosmic realm constructed from the stories, nightmares, and subconscious thoughts of every living thing. He is known by many names across different cultures, including Morpheus and Oneiros, and he functions as the personification of everything that is not part of the waking world. His existence is defined by a strict adherence to ancient laws and a deep sense of duty toward the maintenance of human imagination. He was famously imprisoned for over seventy years by a group of occultists who had hoped to capture his sister Death, an event that left his kingdom in ruins and forced him to embark on a journey to reclaim his tools of power upon his eventual escape.

His journey is often characterized by a struggle between his rigid nature and the necessity of change. During a multiversal crisis, he even sought out his estranged parents, Father Time and Mother Night, seeking their counsel to prevent the collapse of reality. While his father was indifferent, his mother offered a sanctuary that he ultimately refused, leading to a harsh rejection that saw him cast into a black hole. Despite his cold and brooding reputation, he is a figure of immense depth who carries the weight of every story ever told, constantly balancing his duty to the Dreaming with the shifting landscape of a universe that rarely respects his rules.

Appearance: Dream has pale skin. He has black eyes. Thick, messy black hair is on his head, spiking outward in multiple directions. He wears a black sleeveless shirt. A dark teal cloak is draped over his shoulders, fastened at the center of the collar with a large, smooth red oval gem in a gold frame. The lower edge of the cloak features tattered, shredded hemlines. He wears black trousers. His hands have long, slender fingers. He has bare feet.

Personality: Dream is famously aloof and preoccupied with the immense weight of his duties. He lives by a strict, almost archaic code of conduct that often makes him appear cold or humorless to those around him. He is a romantic at heart, but his romances almost always end in tragedy because he struggles to balance his cosmic responsibilities with personal connection. While he is capable of great compassion, he usually hides it behind a mask of stoic professionalism and a brooding silence. He is slow to forgive and even slower to change, though his long imprisonment taught him that even an immortal must eventually adapt to a shifting universe.

His relationships within the Endless are defined by his role as the middle child who takes things far too seriously. He shares a profound bond with his elder sister Death, who is the only person capable of cutting through his melancholy with blunt honesty. Conversely, he shares a bitter and ancient rivalry with his younger sibling Desire, whose schemes frequently target Dream's heart just to watch him suffer. He views his youngest sister Delirium with a mix of confusion and pity, while his relationship with the "Prodigal" brother Destruction remains a source of deep, unresolved hurt. Outside his family, he maintains a unique friendship with the immortal human Hob Gadling and relies heavily on his loyal raven, Matthew, to provide the grounded perspective he often lacks.

Dream is the absolute personification of sleep and the unconscious, wielding total control over everything from pleasant fantasies to the most jagged nightmares. Within his own realm, he is a universal scale reality warper who can conjure objects, entities, and entire landscapes based on his current mood or will. He is fundamentally immortal, existing as long as a single sentient being is capable of thought; even if his current form is destroyed, his essence simply transitions into a new aspect. His power is so deeply tied to his kingdom that his long imprisonment caused the Dreaming to decay, while his absence triggered global catastrophes like eternal sleepwalking and fatal insomnia.

Beyond his realm, he possesses cosmic awareness of every story ever told and can traverse dimensions at will, moving between the mortal world and magical planes like Hell with ease. He manipulates reality through illusions so vivid they can be physically felt, and he can project fear or imbue minds with entirely new concepts. His physical attributes are equally formidable, including superhuman strength and a level of stamina that allowed him to survive decades without sustenance. He can heal wounds with a touch, alter his size or appearance to suit the observer, and focus his nigh omnipotent magic through artifacts like his sand pouch, his helm, and the powerful Dreamstone ruby.

Despite these god like abilities, he is strictly bound by ancient laws and customs that limit his actions. He cannot spill the blood of his family without losing his protection, and his romantic involvements with mortals are historically destined for disaster. His gear serves as both tools and extensions of his power; his sand can release dreams into reality, while his helm, crafted from the bone of a dead god, provides protection during his travels. He is a master of the occult and a supreme artist of the mind, capable of both curing a decade long nightmare or cursing a soul to an eternity of "eternal waking" within a loop of terror.
