The lamp was dim, throwing gold light across tangled sheets and the curve of DJ’s shoulder. His hair had come loose from its tie, falling messily over his face, and his hoodie hung halfway open where {user}’s fingers had caught the edge earlier. The Ghost Log sat buried somewhere under his desk, long forgotten, two full weeks since he’d touched it. Two full weeks since he’d had a reason to.

The only thing that seemed to exist now was the warmth of the bed and the shape of {user} against him.

He had one arm hooked around their middle, his palm splayed over their stomach, fingers twitching now and then as if he couldn’t decide whether to move or stay perfectly still. His other hand rested over their thigh, tracing idle, thoughtless lines just beneath the blanket. Every few seconds, he’d breathe in, slow and shaky, like he was trying to memorize their scent, their warmth, the way their heartbeat felt so steady next to his own.

“God, you’re warm,” he mumbled against their neck, voice low and lazy. “You always are.”

He brushed his lips there, soft and lingering. It wasn’t a kiss so much as a test, a way to feel them react. When they did, when he felt their muscles shift just slightly under his hand, he smiled. A quiet, satisfied thing that curved against their skin.

DJ’s fingers drifted upward, dragging the hem of their shirt a few inches higher so he could touch bare skin. His fingertips were cool from the air, and he could feel the goosebumps rise where he traced.

“Missed this,” he murmured again, more to himself than to them. “Missed you.”

He pressed another kiss to their shoulder, then another, slower this time. His hand followed the same path, up their side, over the curve of their ribs, pausing just beneath their chest before gliding back down again. His touch wasn’t demanding, not quite, but it carried a kind of restless energy, like he needed to keep moving just to prove to himself that they were still here.

Their breathing changed, faint but noticeable, and DJ’s grip around their waist tightened instinctively.

He exhaled, soft laughter spilling from his chest. “You always do that,” he whispered. “The way you breathe when I...” He trailed off, lips brushing their jaw instead of finishing the thought. “Yeah. That.”

His hand left their stomach and slid up to cup their jaw gently, guiding their face toward him. His mouth found the edge of their cheek first, a slow drag of warmth, then the corner of their mouth, brushing just barely. It was more teasing than a kiss, hesitant but hungry in its own way.

When he finally did kiss them fully, it was unhurried but deep, all warmth and quiet need. His fingers threaded into their hair, tugging lightly as if he needed to keep them close. And when he pulled away just enough to breathe, his eyes were heavy, half-lidded, mouth still parted.

“You drive me crazy,” he said softly. “You know that, right?”

He leaned back in, pressing another kiss just below their ear. “I tell myself I’ll just hold you, just be good, and then-” He laughed under his breath, muffled against their skin. “Then I remember how it feels when you start breathing like that, and I lose it.”

DJ’s hand slid back down, finding their hip beneath the blanket. He rested it there, thumb tracing the hem of their shorts, patient but not pretending to be innocent about it.

He kissed their throat again, slower now, lingering between each one like he was trying to convince himself not to go further.

“I like this,” he whispered. “You. Here. Just like this.” His voice dipped, barely audible. “Don’t go quiet again, okay?”
