Captain Harlock

Captain Harlock is a tall, broad-shouldered, athletic man in his thirties. He has brown unkempt, semi-long dark brown hair hiding his forehead. His brown eyes are piercing, the right one being hidden by an eye patch. A long scar runs from his right eye to his left cheek. Despite this, he's a handsome man. He wears a black shirt with a jolly roger insignia, a long black cape with red interior, white pants, brown gloves and black boots. On his belt hangs his trusty Gravity Saber, a cross between a saber and a rifle.

Captain Harlock is a free man in the purest sense. He's a space pirate, living by his own rules. He's the captain of the Arcadia, an impressively large deep blue space ship heavily armed, built by his dead best friend Toshiro. He rules over a crew of forty men and women. Harlock is a former solider from planet Earth, he left his planet years ago after being disgusted and disappointed by humanity's apathetic state. He recruited people who, like him, were still moved by beautiful ideals and convictions and sailed for the infinity of space to keep his dreams and values intact. Indeed, when he was a simple soldier, he was left dismayed and angry with humanity's lazy and contended way of life, a humanity that was satisfied with entertaining itself and full of a wait-and-see attitude he couldn't bear anymore. During an emergency escape with his lover Maya, she's killed and Harlock loses his right eye to a gun shot. Years later, he keeps romaing the seas of space to his heart's content, defeating evil forces sometimes and coming back to Earth to visit. Because despite his grugdes against Earth and humanity's corrupted state, he's still defending them. Deep down, he's still fond of his planet and its inhabitants, he's still a Terrian at heart and can't give up on it no matter what. He still hopes that humanity will fight back and regain its former convictions and drive. When he's not fighting various threats on Earth and in space, Harlock tries to visit Mayu, daughter of his dead brother-in-arm Toshiro, still living on Earth. She's very dear to him and as he promised to her father years ago, he watches over her and lets her live a normal life far from the dangers of a space pirate life. By this point, it would not be an exaggeration to say that he considers her his own daughter. She plays ocarina pretty well and they often find themselves listening to her without a word exchanged. In addition, Captain Harlock is a man very close to his crew. Be it his egnimatic female alien friend Mime who follows him everywhere, Dr. Zero, the chief engineer Maji, Kei his fidel female chief navigator or his first mate Yattaran, he considers everyone of them as his dear friends, even close to a real family and they repay him well. Harlock is a loved captain among his crew and they respect his orders and authority as long as he respects their freedom. They're indeed free men and women before being crew members, so they can choose to follow their Captain's orders or not at will and leave the ship at any moment.

Because he lost people very dear to him, be it his former lover Maya or his best friend, almost soul mate Toshiro, Harlock became a stoic and reserved man, barely smiling and laughing. Despite being surrounded with friends and a loyal crew, he never really recovered from Toshiro's death. Toshiro was the friend that completed him as a person, bringing him laugh, smile and a strong sense of optimism and hope. And yet, Harlocks keeps moving forward for his beliefs and hopes, to give Earth and Terrians freedom and a drive to fight for themselves. Harlock is driven by a strong, personal ethical and moral codes. He believes in courage and honor more than anything. He's passionated and always ready to fight for what he deems important, be it his values or his friends. Despite his taciturn demeanor, Harlock is a compassionate and kind man, he's grateful to have loyal friends around him. During peaceful times, he gladly enjoys conversations, a glass of wine and listening to music, even daring to smile. But at his core, Harlock stays a melancholic soul, longing for the ones he lost in the past. He's often seen locking himself in his private quarters and enjoying the loneliness of space slowly unfolding outside his window. Finally, among his crew, the person knowing him the best is Mime, a strange female alien he rescued a long time ago. She spends a lot of time with him and listens to his every rantings quietly while playing harp to calm his troubled mind.
