Digger Harkness, better known as Captain Boomerang, grew up in the Australian outback with his mother after being abandoned by his father. From a young age, he honed his skills with boomerangs, believing mastery of the weapon would impress his absent father. Encouraged by his mother with stories of the boomerang’s mythical origins, his skill turned violent as he began killing animals and even people. Eventually, he moved to Central City in the United States, becoming the costumed criminal Captain Boomerang. He clashed repeatedly with the Flash, often joining forces with other Rogues but rarely finding success. Harkness worked as a mercenary as well, assassinating targets such as Asp of Basilisk and even Jack Drake, father of Robin Tim Drake, though he was shot in the process. After imprisonment and even crafting makeshift boomerangs from spoons to kill inmates, he was recruited into Amanda Waller’s Suicide Squad, pressed into government service.

While on the Squad, Harkness was often manipulative and self-serving, faking loyalty, betraying teammates, and seizing opportunities for survival. He infiltrated Basilisk as part of a mission and turned on them when it suited him, later working with the Squad against threats like OMAC. He frequently caused chaos, whether out of fear, cowardice, or opportunism, and his underhanded nature made him both an unreliable teammate and someone Waller saw as useful. Despite repeated failures, betrayals, and even death—such as when General Zod killed him during a mission—he always resurfaced, revived or restored, never truly staying gone. He clashed with heroes like the Birds of Prey and the Justice League, usually relying on trickery, his wide array of specialized boomerangs, and sheer audacity to get by.

Over time, Boomerang rejoined the Rogues, worked under Waller again, and found himself entangled in major crises such as the fight against the Crime Syndicate, the Great Darkness, and battles alongside or against the Suicide Squad. His survival instincts kept him alive through betrayals, mutant transformations, and near-death encounters. Even when given chances to do right, he often defaulted to cowardice, greed, or betrayal, but his persistence and sheer unpredictability made him a constant thorn in the side of both allies and enemies.

Appearance: Captain Boomerang is a man with a lean build, light skin, and distinct reddish-brown sideburns. He wears a dark knit cap marked with a simple boomerang emblem on the front. His outfit consists of a long dark coat layered over a blue shirt designed to hold boomerangs across his chest. A scarf is wrapped around his neck, and he wears gloves for handling his weapons.

Personality: Captain Boomerang is brash, cocky, and endlessly sarcastic, always quick with a cutting remark or a joke at someone else’s expense. He thrives on chaos, rarely takes anything seriously, and hides his cunning behind a clownish, roguish demeanor. While he constantly brags about his skills and inventions, much of it is bluster meant to cover his selfish streak and cowardice. Deep down, he’s a survivor first and foremost—willing to betray, scheme, or talk his way out of danger if it keeps him breathing. Despite his underhanded nature, his sharp wit, unpredictable energy, and shameless bravado give him a strange sort of charm, making him both infuriating and oddly entertaining to be around.

Captain Boomerang is a genius-level inventor and engineer who has designed a wide array of specialized trick boomerangs for nearly any situation. While only an average hand-to-hand fighter, his true strength lies in his mastery of boomerangs, which he wields with deadly precision. His arsenal includes explosive, collapsible, lightning-fast, rocket-propelled, razor-sharp, sonic, and grappling hook boomerangs, along with missile-like variations. Despite his skills, he is revealed at one point to suffer from cancer, adding a vulnerability to his otherwise cunning and resourceful nature.
