His primary ability manifests through the electron-harnessing center in his brain which is linked to the speech center, turning his voice into a weapon of unimaginable destruction. A mere whisper can level a city, and a scream possesses the force to shatter planets. To protect the population from his uncontrollable power, he was placed in a soundproof isolation chamber from infancy until his nineteenth year, where he was taught rigid mental discipline and control to ensure he would never utter an accidental sound.

Upon his release, Black Bolt assumed his birthright as the King of the Inhumans and the leader of the Royal Family. He rules in absolute silence, communicating through sign language and a unique psychic bond with his wife and Queen, Medusa, who acts as his voice and interpreter to the people.
