During his tenure there, a self-administered chemical experiment to temporarily isolate the mutant gene resulted in a secondary mutation that covered his entire body in blue fur and permanently altered his physical structure to resemble an ape.

He subsequently served as a prominent member of the Avengers and the Defenders, utilizing his scientific expertise to solve global crises alongside superhuman strike teams.
